Since my work is on a flimmaker, a lot of the writing will be like 'video' so I've been thinking about having my own specific format to the book. Because these chick books going around have the entire thing in IM language, so this can't be that bad...anyway here it is, and I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts. Oh and one more thing, the story is in 1st person [I walked over....] so I was trying to figure out if the 'video' sections could be told in 3rd or is it second? [We zoom and and you can clearly see,] Okay, here's the format. ~~~~=Blah, Blah Blah. REC. Zoom 3x "We are the people!~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~```` Zoom Out 2x, Black & White filter. We see a running man, running from a purseing shop keeper. ~~~~~~ ~~~ PAUSE-STATIC-CLEAR PICTURE ~~~~~~~
So what's "````"? Anyways, if a proper format is maintained, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe brackets would work if you want to put these items like (REC.)? Or I'm just spoiling your style.
Personally, it wouldn't draw me in. But, a book (chick or otherwise) written in IM language wouldn't draw me in, either. So, maybe that says more about me than it does about the format.
If you are talking about a format for a screenplay, I would suggest asking mammamaia. But if you are talking about a format for a book, I personally wouldn't touch a book written like that with a 10 foot pole. Write a novelization instead, using the same writing priciples as you would use for any other novel.
