    Drug Induced Memory Loss

Discussion in 'Research' started by DarkPen14, Jul 2, 2019.

In my fantasy story, there is a kind of sedative referred to as "Violet Toxin" in the common tongue. It's kinda a hand wave multi-purpose liquid. In small, heavily diluted doses, it works like a traditional sedative and can also act as a painkiller. In stronger doses, small concentrations of the liquid, it functions as a tranquilizer. And in high concentrations and overdoses it can induce sustained loss of memory prior to the point where the sedative was introduced to the body, provided it doesn't kill you from overdosing, for as long as there is some concentration of it.

Does such a chemical or mixture thereof exist in real life that I can use for reference?

It sounds a lot like alcohol to me...

One or two drinks - relaxing and social
Three or four - drowsy and drunk
    Five to eight - numb
"Over the eight" - what the **** did I do last night?!

Benzies and barbiturates maybe. Benzodiazapines can cause memory loss, but don't really affect memory pre-ingestion unless used to excess, and then it's generally large scale memory problems.

Xanax would fit the bill. It's a fairly powerful tranquilizer in regular doses. I once took a handful of them to try and commit suicide, I still don't remember the three days leading up to it.

While I do appreciate the insight, I hope you know death is not the answer

What about Rohypnol? Isn't that the date-rape drug, that leaves the user without memory? You could definitely research that...

I have, but it's a drug that leaves the user without memory while it is in their body. I'm looking for something that can wipe the slate from before it was ingested, or something similar.
