Hey, everyone. I'm... confused? I don't know. I see here people refer to one another by their usernames, which is weird, because at other forums we use names (don't worry, we're not pedophiles. first names only, heh). So I guess that means I'm Jovian Temptations, not my real name. You can call me MSB if you want (thought I don't see why you would). Anyways, I'm 15 (nearly 16, heh), and even though it's cliche and so forth, I want to be a writer when I grow older (perhaps even now would be good). From what I'm told, I'm a good writer (though aside from the award I won two years ago in a contest at a college, the only people to tell me that are friends and family, whose opinions don't count for much). Mayhap I will become a writer one day. We'll see. Uhh... I know it's cliche, but my favorite author is JK Rowling and my favorite book is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Please understand I'm not one of those people who has only ever read the Harry Potter books. I'm not. I've read tons of other things (I read a lot, heh), but I'm so attached to those characters and I think that JKR is so FREAKING clever and good at writing that I have no choice but to name it as my favorite. My favorite activities are reading and writing (both attempted novels and poetry) and hanging out with my friend (yes, just friend, not friends). I'm not good at athletics, so I don't do sports, but I do like swimming and playing badminton for fun. The Olympics don't interest me much either, heh (sorry, Olympics fans). I don't have any pets and I'm an only child, which kind of rocks and kind of doesn't. I'm in my school's marching band. I try not to make spelling or grammar errors as much as possible because it FREAKING annoys me, but I'm sorry if one or two slips in now and again. Sorry for writing a novel about me, heh. Hope to see you guys around sometime. =) Later.
Hello Jovian Temptations, Welcome to the Writing Forums. We encourage members to post safely, and not reveal too much personal information, particularly our many teenage members. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hey Jovian Welcome to the forum. There are loads of teenagers on this site, including me, I'm 14. What genre do you prefer to write?
Ahh. I seem to have forgotten to include that in my post. My preferred genre is fantasy, which is also what I like to read most. Not high fantasy, though (Sword & Sorcery). That stuff is too complicated for me.
Nothing against you for liking it. I admire you for being able to keep it all straight in your head. Things go wonky and I end up not remembering who anyone is or where they are. THanks for the welcome, though, and congrats on being awesome enough to understand S&S.
welcome to the party!... as for names, you'll see that some of our members [including me] do use their real names in their posts, even though their usernames are shown at the left, with other info... love and hugs, maia [yup, that's my name!]
Hey! Like anonymouswriter said there are a lot of teenagers on teh site, i'm another 14 year old. As for the whole Hp thing, i like it too! Deathly Hallows is my favorite of the series. JKR isn't my favorite author and Hp aren't my favorite books but they are prtty hihg up there. Feel free to talk wiht me whenever you want! Welcome to the forum.
I'm also fourteen though for less than a week left yet, then 15. Sorry but I don't really like Harry Potter books all that much, but hey just me. Not too long intro anyway it's cool. Fantasy is the best genre in my opinion and it seems there's a lot of people on here who seem to agree with either reading it or writing it.
