Going to head Kevin McCarthy speak this Friday. I've met him before - he's been an acquaintance of a couple family member for around 25 years now. I've also heard him speak, and found him to be quite bad at public speaking (ironic, given the title of the position he was going for). Wish me luck, having to sit through another speech. I wonder if he'll touch on the speakership issue? According to my family members, he's a nice person. Even so, I wouldn't vote for the guy.
Yes. The meeting opened with a rendition of God Bless America :/ On the other hand, Alex Trebek is the MC and he seems pretty cool. Apparently T. Boone Pickens is here, but I haven't seen him yet.
Opens with a joke about how oil prices have dropped but that he tanked even more politically in the last two weeks.
Ties Obama to Carter via hostages in Iran, death of ambassador, Russian invasions, oil policy. Says Obama is managing the decline of the U.S., not trying to make it better etc.
Invokes Xmas of 1776 and the famous river crossing painting with the US as a melting pot working together and a hand out inviting us to work together. Saccharine.
He comes back to stage after his speech to moderate an expert panel, and the theme they play when he comes back is Back in Black.
Trebek has been worth it. He's had about 45 minutes to kill due to missing participants because of bad roads out here. He's entertaining.
