    Strip scenes in fiction?

Discussion in 'Research' started by 123456789, Apr 14, 2014.

Anyone know any novels with a good strip dance scene, preferably at a club?

I can recall some movies and videos that feature a strip scene in context, no novels come to mind though.

No, that just gives erotica. That's definitely not what I'm interested in

I know a couple of films that might give you inspiration.

There's Demi Moore in Striptease. A crap film by all accounts, but yeah, it does what it says on the tin.

Theres that film Showgirls. Cant remember who the main actress was. Same sort of idea. Ideal for red-blooded perverts.

Eh...There's a good drama with Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini, I forget the name. It shows the seedier side of stripping. Definitely worth a watch.

If you're badly stuck you could always get your girlfriend to demonstrate a few routines. For research purposes of course....There's no better research than actual experience.

    Anyway, good luck!

I checked Amazon and while it gives erotica titles, there's also contemporary romance (ugh..). Is this like research on how other writers have written striptease?

Yeah, but again, we are not interested in erotic or contemporary romance. More like, how would Shakespeare or Oscar Wilde write a strip scene?
    PS. Thanks for checking ;)

Great ideas Mackers but that's all been taken care of. The important part is the artistic translation of real strip dances into words....also taken care of (presumably) but I'd like to make some comparisons to be sure!

There must be some general fiction titles with some artistic merit about a stripper out there... Since you mentioned Wilde, I was reminded of Baudelaire's poetry, specifically the poems he wrote about his mistress.

You could always go to a strip club for 'research puposes'. ;)
I'm sure they've seen stranger things than someone jotting down notes.:)

Writing a scene like that could be pretty tricky. You could go down two roads. One with finesse and the other...pornographic. I take it you're aiming for the former :) With finesse it's probably as much important in knowing what to leave out than what to put in

I suggest you look up "Burlesque" rather than striptease. It is basically the same thing, but writers give more respect to the former, and there are many factual, non erotic books about the dancers and their art.
