one of my favourite is Pina Colada Delicious I love coconut so yeah this one of my favourite top 10. What are/is yours?
These days I'm keen on pouring a bit of rum into a short glass, along with an equal pour of bourbon, and then adding a splash of Grand Marnier. I don't even know what this particular mix is called, but it's become a favorite of mine for warming up during cold winter evening sessions on my laptop.
The cocktail of the summer round my way was the pornstar martini. I may have had one or two... I also quite like a lager cocktail which is a pint of lager in a tall glass with just a splash of lager.
Lager. Beer. No "r". It was supposed to be humour but it loses a lot in translation. I resign. ETA but we did have a LOT of pornstar martinis - possibly didn't help that my local bar had a two-for-one price all day and my seventy-something neighbours were keen to take their boat to the bar every time the sun shone... Which was often... My fave is (probably) a B52
My grandmother taught me to drink and gamble, at her kitchen table. Beam Old-fashion, neat (no ice). Jim Beam, a slice of orange, maraschino cherry (sometimes juice from jar), Angostura bitters. No water unless it's my third or fourth. I really loved to drink and play cards, but no more. My body doesn't tolerate alcohol anymore.
I haven't put my liver through an endurance test for at least a decade! Well, there was my 40th b-day in Tokyo... but that's another story. However, you might have come up with a perfect name for this cocktail. These days, I drink responsibly, and I always buckle up before I write.
Gin & Tonic is my go to. Followed by a Vodka Cranberry, or Cape Cod as it may be known. Then it's a Tom Collins, but with half as much soda. And then it's a Grand Banks, which is like a Bermuda Triangle, but using Screech instead of spiced Rum and with a squeeze of lime. Every once in a while, too, I'll get on a kick and drink nothing but White Russians for a couple of weeks. Mojito's are a good warm weather drink, too, if you can find someone that really knows how to mix one. Overall, though, I'm not really picky when it comes to alcohol. ETA: Almost forgot, if I'm feeling super rich and pretentious, I'll order a Death in the Afternoon, which is Absinthe louched with Champagne.
Tequila Sunrise and/or Moscow Mule. I'm fond of cocktails (technically 'mixed drinks') that use several mixers plus a single alcohol, rather than several different kinds of alcohol. I'm not crazy about overly sweet concoctions either. Or drinks that include artificially coloured spirits or mixers. I've been wanting to try some of those newer gin cocktails, served in the gin balloon glass, with all the greenery and sprigs inside. You'd probably need a filter for your teeth, but still. Don't they look intriguing? Scotland has gone gin-mad over the past couple of years. Many of the iconic whisky distilleries are also producing gin these days, because it matures much more quickly and helps the cash flow. Some of these gins look really intriguing to me. Lots of new ones appearing in supermarkets as well. I'm tempted to try one, but I don't drink very much (and my husband doesn't drink at all any more) and our liquor cabinet is FULL. Mostly because the alcohol in it doesn't get used. Guests coming to the house are often driving, so THEY don't drink. That's good in many ways, but a bit disappointing in others. A nice cocktail before or after dinner can be a treat.
I was introduced, a while back, to gin and tonic with a slice of cucumber in it, rather than the usual lemon. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. Really provides that extra flavoursome boost that lemon just doesn't.
Yes, I plan to throw half the garden into the glass, next time I make a gin cocktail. I think these look wonderful. And dare I say it ...healthy? Trouble is, they seem to require a hot day to fully enjoy ...and that comes, like Christmas, but once a year.
Rum and Dr Pepper, on the rocks. I'm sure the cocktail must have a name, but I just call it breakfast.
I've never really liked alcohol myself, the one exception I remember that I thought was tasty was a forest fruit frozen cocktail sold at a restaurant named Baton Rouge I visited when I was in Canada with family (at 18, too young to drink in Canada, but my mother wanted me to try different kinds of alcohol at the time so she let me have a sip). I don't remember what the name of it is, it was over a decade ago. I've tried a fair share of mocktails, most of them are site/chain specials though. The only 'standard' one I can recall is the Arnold Palmer (cloudy lemonade with tea) which is pretty yummy.
