When I was little it used to be just getting together with my mothers family every year at one place and having fun. We'd play all sorts of games. Also the smell. You used to be able to smell pine trees everywhere in december and all the neighbuors baking non stop just before hand. Was amazing. Now I just look forward to the excitement of my children and neice and nephews as they wake up and get to open their presents up. But it is great when family can get together and not argue or anything, just have a wonderful day together even if it is one day a year.
Or the fact that my kids are so exhausted from being so excited all day long that they go to bed early sleep right through and I can just lay on the couch watching horror movies and fall asleep. Perfect end to a nightmare of a day! lol
Just the amount of fun we have on the day. Getting together with family, opening presents, eating way too much, forgetting about stress and worries.
But then again- Christmas is pretty much for kids. Adults argue over what presents to get each other and get disapointed when either they don't get a present at all or not what they wanted or that the present is cheap.
I like the thought of getting it over with. Who knew getting a boyfriend would cause so much stress and headaches. I sometimes wish It was just me again then I would only have to worry about my own family- Not fifty cousins wanting expensive presents.
I'm not a kid, I still enjoy it I believe my mum also does and she's 52. Though, on the whole, Christmas has become a very stressful time with trying to do everything in time and the financial struggle it causes for a lot of people.
The whole atmosphere is just amazing at Christmas. My favourite thing though is going out with my mates and getting all cold and wet, then coming in, sitting infront of the fire with some hot choccie and the tree has its lights on and it is dark outside. I love it.
I like to sit in the room with just the tree lit up and some good music playing and a glass of wine. Heaven. Oh, and sprouts of course. Love sprouts. Been denying myself sprouts so that it makes it even more special on sprout day (well, that and the kids keep complaining cos I make them eat so many)
Actually I realised today what my all time favourite thing about Christmas is THe Imported Premium Danish Butter Cookies THey are the only ones I like and I only eat them at Christmas. So yeah that is my most favouritest thing about Christmas is lol
The icy squares are great. I like the way the paper clings to anything. the danish cookies are a favourite of mine. the thing that really bugs me though is wrapping the presents. I do a crappy job and they are a pain in the butt trying to find a box that fits them. Can you tell I spent 2 hours wrapping presents this morning? They are almost done now I have to find a box they will all fit into so we can put them on the bus tomorrow night. I still have to make some cookies to put in the box as well. I do love just about everything at christmas except the wrapping. Anybody want the job next year?
I like to put up my tree with my husband and play christmas music. I put the lights on every night and sit in there in the peace and coziness. We usually get each other something during the year that we really want... for example, this year my husband really wanted skis... so I said, "just get them!" Then at Christmas time we just get something small and goofy. On Christmas eve we open presents and drink some yummy Christmas drink (this year it will be eggnog with rum and a yummy espresso wine). My mom lives with us so she comes out and opens presents and stockings too. I spend the year trying to find both of them the perfect ornament (we do that every year)... sometimes it is mushy and other times it is funny. I read a chapter from the book: The Ragman (the same chapter every year and it expresses what Christmas is really about), we finish our drinks, and watch the polar express. Christmas day is then spent with family and friends, drinking wine, relaxing, eating fudge, and opening presents (though we never expect them). All of that is my favorite thing about Christmas.
Okay, so Christmas is about getting presents, but I have to tell you every year, my mother in law gives me the worst presents, and she's known me for almost twenty years? What's up with that? Favorite part: The build up. Decorating the house, putting lights up outside and the tree.
My favorite thing about Christmas has to be Christmas in itself. The true meaning of families getting back together. The thought of having a joyful time for a month. I think thats what I like about Christmas, the thought that a holiday can bring joy and happiness.
Watching others happily open gifts. I love watching people, my sisters especially, have a good time. And Leaka, you said it all right there!
You answered that one yourself- Mother in law! My grandmother kept getting my dad ties for christmas- even though she knows that he very rarely wears a tie- I've seen him wear a tie maybe 3 times! I like the fact that this is the first christmas with my boyfriend- also christmas eve will mark the our one year anniversary! YAY!
Iam done. Put Dom's present into his bank account tonight. that was the last gift I had to do. Presents arrived in time to the Sudbury family. Now it is all over. 2 old folks together and you don't need the fancy meal even. Next year will be better. I will insist on children being here.
