Usually in a trial, lawyers will approach the bench, if they do not want the jury to hear what they have to say. But what if it's a preliminary hearing, and there is no jury, but still members of the victims in the back, as well as other people? Would they still approach the bench, or would voicing their concerns over certain objections, be everyone in the room to hear?
