    Fiction book proposal - help!

Discussion in 'Publishing' started by Mckk, Mar 16, 2013.

So, I know for fiction you have to send a query letter, and that usually a book proposal is reserved for non-fiction books. But I came across some sites that say one needs to be ready to hand over a book proposal too, even for fiction - that there're some agents who require this.

Firstly, is that true? Or is a query, synopsis and sample chapters enough?

Secondly, if I were to write a book proposal for fiction, how should I write this?

Thirdly, how is a book proposal for fiction formatted? I've seen non-fiction proposals but I can't see myself doing a similar breakdown for chapter contents, for example.

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Makes no sense. A proposal is for a book which has not yet been written. Fiction is always completed before submitting.

Sounds like a load of bovine manure.

i've never come across any legit agent who'd want a 'book proposal' for a novel... given what a proposal consists of, it would make no sense whatsoever, anyway...

what sites did you get that idea from?

    consider the source!...

a conglomerate site that seems to consist of stuff written anonymously about everything under the sun by who knows who with who knows what level of experience/expertise... the article on a fiction proposal is nonsensical... clearly written by someone who's clueless about selling a novel...
