Hey, I'm Dallas and I don't speak Spanish. I am in the middle of writing a novel and figured joining a forum with other aspiring writers could only be helpful to the writing process. I plan to look at other peoples work, critique it if at all possible, and perhaps post some of my work on here as well. I hope I have a great time here, and if at anytime I am doing something I shouldn't be doing please correct me.

It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Thanks guys! Alright Cogito, the Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work article made a WHOLE lot of sense, and I plan on using my critiquing eye a little first. I might have to check out the contest for short stories...but... Poems aren't really my style.
poems not your style? Short stories aren't mine. But I always find it beneficial to try out all kinds of writing in order to improve our skills. Just a thought. ~Lynn
I avoided poems like the plague when I first joined. They still aren't my favorite form of expression, but I'm glad I decided to take a few stabs at critiquing and writing poetry. I've learned a lot by doing so.

Hey Sophie, ya... I was at a party with a friend and I replied to some strangers greeting with hola in an attempt to be funny. He just assumed that I spoke Spanish, and begin to blither away non stop. It really irritated me. Sooooooo. I correct people before they start.
