    first draft done! (after 11 years)

    Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by Mckk, Sep 11, 2018.

    Just thought I'd tell the world because I've been working on this frigging thing for 11 years :dead::agreed:

    Now I just gotta add one more scene and then do a reread - possibly add a little detail to flesh out one particular character. But apart from that, it's basically done. I edit as I go along and I've had 2 alpha readers read as I went, so it's pretty polished quality-wise.

    OMG it's done it's done it's done! And I think this one doesn't have any plot holes - first draft (after 6+ drafts and probably over a million words later) without plot holes!

    Like, I say this is a "first" draft but heh... it's been 11 years. I'm not sure what counts as a first draft anymore.

    It's doooooone!!! :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:

    @jannert might be particularly happy seeing as I gave you half a rough draft several years ago and have left you hanging ever since :whistle:

    Oh, and shamelessly asking for beta readers, in case anyone's interested. (Fantasy, 130k)

    Well then, congratulations are in order! Well done!

    I too edit and polish as I go, and can't imagine writing any other way. I send chapters off one by one to my editor and after the red ink has dried, and I've fixed things up, I move on.

    @jannert has been kind enough to offer her services, and when I've enough of the story written she'll get a crack at it!

    Congrats for sticking with it though by some counts, I may have beaten you with 20 clock years on mine. But in terms of actually writing clock time, mine was just a paltry 7 years, 13 spent lurking on my hard drive, untouched.

    There is nothing like the feeling of writing the last line of the first draft!

    True--probably not a first draft. But certainly a milestone!

    Thanks guys! I've since ground to a complete standstill on editing. I just can't bring myself to do it... :cry: Every time I look at the page count and I'm like, "Ugh I have another 400+ pages to go. F***!" I'm sure it's all perfectly normal and I'm definitely gonna do it, but in the meantime I've been thoroughly distracted by a new Hong Kong crime drama I found instead :pop: Very productive, I'm sure... :superthink: 5 episodes in 2 days!

    How the feck do you motivate yourself to edit?! :pity:
