Hey Folks! My fantasy novel Flank Hawk finally found a publisher, Gryphonwood Press. It had made it out of the slush piles at a couple medium-sized presses, but didn't make the final cut. Well, now it has! The contract has been signed (yesterday) and in the mail yesterday. I don't have an estimated publication date yet, but it'll be published in trade paperback, Kindle and ebook formats. Although it'll be available to order through just about every bookstore (and of course online through places like Amazon.com and the publisher) as you know, it probably won't just appear on the shelves. Gryphonwood has decent distribution but is a small player in the publishing industry. So, I won't be getting rich and famous from this but still I think it's pretty cool. Terry
Wow, awesome job! Congratulations, Terry! I'm really happy to see you have this kind of success. I know you and I have never exactly exchanged words, but you've always been a great influence for young/new writers like myself and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
TEACH ME HOW. TAKE ME WWIIITTTH YOOOUUU... *Ahem* I mean, Wow, well done! Great news Terry! I'll be looking out for your booky-wook.
^^ Same here, Tez. (Lol, Tez) I'm not even a fan of Fantasy usually, but I'd be very interested in supporting your work and investing some money into the genre, seeing as we know you on here 'n' all.
Hey, thanks all (Agreen, CDRW, Cogito, Garmar69, Maestro, Rei)! Actually, it’s the second novel I wrote. My first is sitting on the executive editor’s desk over at Baen Books. It’s been there a while—nothing moves fast in publishing. Will let you know. Reviews are definitely on the agenda. While there are some writers out there that do, I don’t consider writing a competition where helping someone out hinders my chances. I think helping someone out lifts us all up a step or two. I appreciate the compliment. Ashleigh, Thirdwind and NaCl, your willingness to support is very cool and encouraging. Hey, if you don’t like the genre, there’s always the gift aspect for someone who does. Terry
Well done Terry. Great to hear of your success with your novel. I hope that it does really well with the sales. Best of luck and looking forward to hearing of your next success! Best of luck with the other novel. Hope all goes well there. And at least with publishing being slow, gives you plenty of time to get to work on the next piece.
Torana, Hsnodgrass, x raichelle x, and Cheeno, Thanks for your congrats and support. Hiddennovelist and Agreen, this certainly can and will be arranged for you and all interested when it comes out! Again, thanks all. I’m already busy but it’s a fun sort of busy—at least for now. Terry
Rock on! I'm so happy for you! I hope I can come back here and make a similar post one day! Good luck with your career and I wish you even more success in the future.
Starseed, Thanks! All you can do (toward being able to post similarly) is hang in there, keep writing and improving and keep submitting--be persistent. Flank Hawk was submitted to eight markets total. Three times it made it out of the slush pile for full reads but wasn't quite what the publisher was looking for. In the end it did make it out of the next slush pile and found a good home. If Gryphonwood Press wouldn't have accepted it, I had another market in mind. Terry
