Some of you are throwing the word "murder" around like his death at the hands of government is, somehow, unjustifiable. The death penalty exists for a reason . . . and it AIN'T rehabilitation! If government considers expanding the death penalty to include pedophiles, I would support it. And, it is NOT "murder", it is capital punishment. As far as cases of rape, child molestation, mutilation and any other violent crime against victims who SURVIVE the attack, my solution is to give the victims the choice of punishment after a court receives a conviction. Life in prison. Capital punishment. Or, lock the villain in a room with 10 of the victim's designated family members for 30 minutes (no weapons allowed, only bare hands) . . . surrogate "family" members may be designated by the victim in case 10 tough family members are not available. No charges can be levied against any member of the victim's "family" team no matter what happens to the bad guy.
Lemex, My son and son-in-law are in law enforcement. We have had this discussion many times. They are acting BEFORE a bad guy has had his day in court. From that perspective, a cop MUST presume the perp is possibly innocent and act with restraint. AFTER conviction in a court of law, capital punishment is a perfectly reasonable result if the crime meets certain standards of violence set forth by government. If those standards are amended to include death for child molestation, then it is NOT "murder", it is capital punishment.
I understand that. That's not what I'm saying. The British Government abolished Capital Punishment after the Crown vs Derek Bentley case in the 60s (I think it was anyway) so if he dies on british soul that isn't a natural death, then he would mostly likely have been killed by upset thugs . So I ask you ... is that an appropriate basis for a system of Law and Order? And in all respect, I think reminding people on this site to be civil in this sensitive subject is a show of restraint. Now, I think I have discussed this enough. I apologise if anything I said offended people.
"Civil" is relative. Your sense of "civil" is merely your own bias. I feel it is not "civil" to allow those children to suffer for a lifetime, while coddling the evil criminal under such weak punishments as "house arrest", being included on some sexual predator list or even spending a life in prison, complete with good food, TV, free medical care, exercise sessions and warm clothes. And, of course, prisoners always have the hope that one day the government will make a mistake or change their minds and let them go free. They live with the possibility of escape from their punishment. The victims live with their pain for life, with no possibility of "parole". You and I will have to respect each other's right to disagree. I do not see capital punishment as "not civil" . . . to me it is fair and reasonable justice. But, please understand, I do respect your right to disagree. Note: Despite the emotional angst of this topic, I very much appreciate the "civil" manner in which we have all participated in this thread. No name calling. No profanity. You folks are a credit to the "civil-ized" world!
And I equally respect your right to disagree too. And yes, my interpretation of the word 'civil' comes from my largely pacifist views. You have different views to me, and though I disagree with them, I respect them. End of. Good discussion NaCI. I'm so glad we can settle this as adults.
I don't understand the difference between death sentence, and sentencing someone to life in prison. Taking someone's life is taking someone's life, I don't think one choice is any more humane than the other. I don't know how things are in foreign prisons, but here in america a life sentence consists of a lifetime of fighting, getting shanked, losing your dignity and anal virginity. If someone has proven that they cannot follow the basic rules of humanity then why not destroy them? If someone's enough of a danger to those around them that they must be separated from society for the rest of their life, then why not kill them? why waste resources? Some may say "What gives you the right to kill someone?" but I say, "What gives you the right to forcefully lock someone in a facility with a gaggle of dangerous maniacs for the rest of his life?" It's torture. last time i checked, death was more merciful than being tortured to death. How is life in prison any better than death? Pedophiles deserve everything they get, but i don't think they deserve death until after they've had therapy and a chance at rehabilitation. After all, most pedophiles are untreated victims of pedophilia themselves. Not that this absolves them of their crimes or anything, just pointing out the pattern. If they can't be rehabilitated though.. I say go ahead and give em 2 in the chest and one in the head.
How about up his bum and in another place. Seriously as good as torture would be. Quick and simple. its the best way. why let him breath more oxygen. That I could be having. I like the comment pass the peadophile. No one wants him and he's realised that he dare not return to the UK. One thing I know of British folk. And thats they hate Peadophiles. well the ones that Aren't Peadophiles. He deserves many things like a beating that thrashes him within inches of his life the bleach thing. castration. But I say quick plain and simple. One Bullet One gun and bang. Tp see his face on the news sickens me because he looks like an evil little toad.
I understand every side to this issue. I have been molested, raped, counseled molesters, been brought up around them and so on... I have an uncle, who I have considered my favorite and I found out just this year that he, too, is one of the perverts. He just didn't prey upon my sisters and I because he was afraid of his brother, my father. But he did rape two of my aunt's daughter. I did a group for abused women for years, and always at least 65% of them had been molested or raped. I believe it was under reported. Would I want my uncle to pay the consequences of his behavior with his life??? No! Would he deserve it? I must say, that if we know that could be the consequences, then I believe we must be prepared to pay them. It would be sad, BUT the fact that he did these things to my cousins makes my heart wither. He does not deserve to live his life as though nothing every happened. He will never pay, other than his self imposed punishment of isolation and drunkenness. His daughter had boys, which he leaves alone and none of us take our children around him. He lives a hermits life now out in the woods. That's still not good enough. I still have dreams and I'm pretty old. Women my age were told to 'put it in the past'. I wonder how many women my age had parties after Loraina Bobbit ... It's a good thing there are good men out there, as well.
Have you guys heard of Joseph Duncun, over here in Idaho? He plotted to kill a three members of a family and abduct their two youngest children, a boy and a girl. He took them in the wilderness and tortured them and killed the boy and finally was caught with the girl. He had been released from prison, had been in other trouble and accused of two other murders of half-sisters in the Seattle area, and prob/pro had not kept up with where he was out of either Michigan or North Dakota (can't remember for sure). These men will do what it takes to get what they want - they are sick - they cannot be cured. The cure rate is 1% or less of the population of convicted molesters. Look it up. The victims sometimes become molesters, and molesters are monsters, and monsters are monsters.
Thailand threatens to expel Gary Glitter to Britain Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter has returned to Thailand after being refused entry to Hong Kong, the Foreign Office said. The increasingly farcical situation leaves the disgraced singer in international limbo. He has already been barred from entering Thailand after travelling there when he was released from a Vietnamese prison. A Foreign Office spokesman said the 64-year-old, travelling under his real name Paul Gadd, was denied entry to Hong Kong and had now returned to Bangkok. The Foreign Office spokesman said: "We have been informed by the Hong Kong authorities that Mr Gadd was denied entry to Hong Kong and has returned to Bangkok.Mr Gadd was in contact with us seeking consular assistance." The spokesman did not say what form of assistance Glitter sought. He was refused entry to the Chinese territory on Wednesday night after flying there on Thai Airways service TF 602, the Foreign Office confirmed. Chinese authorities informed their UK counterparts that they had barred Glitter from the country after his arrival at 11pm local time (1600 BST). Immigration police at Hong Kong airport said privacy laws meant they could not comment on Glitter's case. Glitter spent more than 20 hours in the transit lounge at Bangkok airport on Wednesday following his release from a Vietnamese prison on Tuesday. He had served two years and nine months of a three-year sentence for abusing two girls aged 10 and 11. Under the terms of his release he was due to board a connecting flight to London's Heathrow airport but refused claiming ill health. He was barred entry into Thailand and immigration officials said Glitter would be taken to a detention centre if he continued to refuse to leave the country. Lieutenant General Chatchawal Suksomchit, the chief of Thailand's immigration police, said Glitter was denied entry because under Thai immigration laws those convicted of child sex abuse in a foreign country could be barred.
Thai immigration authorities threatened Thursday to expel former glam rocker and convicted paedophile Gary Glitter to his native Britain after Hong Kong refused to let him in. Glitter, 64, was released from a Vietnamese prison on Tuesday after serving nearly three years for committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12. He had been booked to fly that night to London via Bangkok, but refused to get on the plane to Britain and instead spent 24 hours in a transit lounge before agreeing to take a flight to Hong Kong. Chinese authorities refused to allow him in and he was sent back to Thailand, where he has been declared persona non grata. The head of immigration at Bangkok's international airport said Thai Airways would have to take Glitter to Britain. "According to the law, the airline must take responsibility as it brought in someone who is persona non grata," Major General Pongdej Chaipravej told AFP. "The first priority is that he must continue his journey to London, as originally booked," Pongdej added. Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, has reportedly been contacting countries around Asia in hopes of finding one that will allow him in, but he may finally be forced to return to Britain. Once famous for his flamboyant bouffant wigs and silver jumpsuits, Glitter now tries to hide his scrappy grey goatee behind a scarf to escape the media spotlight as he hops around the region. Glitter had earlier served prison time in Britain on child pornography charges. He was arrested there in 1997 after taking his computer to a repair shop, where hardcore child pornographic material was found on its hard drive. He was sentenced in 1999 to four months in prison, of which he served two. Keen to avoid the media, Glitter reportedly moved to Cuba and then Cambodia, where he was expelled in 2002, allegedly for trawling for underage sex. Having settled in communist Vietnam, where a British newspaper reported he was living with an underage girl, he was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City airport in November 2005 while trying to leave for Thailand. In March 2006 he was sentenced to three years in prison, the minimum term under Vietnamese law, which was later cut by three months. The singer maintained his innocence, blamed a media conspiracy and claimed he was teaching the girls English and allowed them to stay overnight because they were scared of ghosts. He has continued to profess his innocence as he shuttles desperately among Asian airports. "God, am I happy to be leaving Vietnam and that jail. I should never have been in there," he said on one flight, according to The Sun newspaper in Britain. Although Britain has not announced any outstanding charges against the singer, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said he would be forced to sign a sex offenders register and warned that he should not be allowed to travel overseas again. In the 1970s, Glitter racked up several hit songs including "I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am!)" and "Do You Wanna Touch Me?" The anthemic 1972 hit "Rock and Roll" is still often chanted in British and US sports stadiums. He has spoken about trying to revive his music career and penning a book that he says would exonerate him. The disgrace of pass the paedophile goes on.
Two threads on the same subject? Would It be wise adding this to the other and renaming it the 'Gary Glitter' thread? But, I can not stand the man. The sooner he is dead the better.
This is getting insane. Seriously, just force him on a plane and send his a** back to britain. I really, really hope that no country willingly takes him in.
We don't particularly want him, to be honest. Maroon him on a desert island somewhere. He can get eaten by sharks or something.
Give him a rubber life raft and set him loose in international waters. If he can reach land in a country that will take him - too bad. I'd hope any shark that took him would survive.
We could hang him from the Big Ben low enough for everyone to throw something very painful at him. Shouting. Die B*****d Die. Works for me...
This is absolutely rediculas...that fool needs to be dealt with and I think it is long over due. What a waste of space...he is simply disgusting.
Gee, so little empathy for him... (Actually, I too believe he is a waste of skin, and don't want him polluting air I might someday breathe).
Like it or not, he's a Brit and you folks should try to extradite him. Then, apply the harshest restraint allowed under British law. Of course, I personally feel he should simply be turned over to the families of the victims for a few hours of "rehabilitation". LOL
I can't help but feel a sense of deja vu here... I'm sure it has already been discussed He's agreed to come back to Britain, whereupon he will be "greeted" by police. And probably the usual crowd of protesters. I expect this is one of the few times where the majority of the police force will agree with the lynch mob.
