Hi everyone, new to the channel so a big hello to everyone . I have a query for those people that write regularly. What is your trick to get your creative juices flowing. Do you meditate beforehand, switch on some classical music? What exactly is your trick to getting into state?
Welcome to Writing Forums, falinx! I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing. This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work. However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing. Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself and Cogito) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here. Banzai (And I'll move this to New Member Introductions for you )
relaxation, going out, fresh air and a jolly amount of happiness should do the trick without forgetting a glass of wine or a cognac on a chilly winter night is just the recipee for happy writing.
I like to have a designated space for writing so that my mind and body knows to start writing when I go there. It's usually the public library. I bring my laptop or a USB stick to use the computers there.
Editing it again and again, and again. Then showing it to somebody and editing it some more. Tears and sweat, without the 'blood' part. But that's me, a guy who does not speak English well. May be you can find an easier way. In the words of a Chinese politician, it doesn’t matter what colour a cat is as long as it catches mice.
I know when I'm ready to write, and I don't fight the feeling on when to put it down. I'm a gym-rat, the hardest thing for me to do is to not work-out. But there are times when my body says "no." I went for over three years once with only four days off. It's not good in the long run. I'm on a hiatus now. I do research, I keep in touch with other writers--both on a personal basis and in collabortion--and I read other people's stuff. Even hobbyist magazines. And then (horrors, heresy and blasphemy) I write a nice polite note to my fellow members of a forum, and tell them I'm taking a few weeks off. Then I shut off the computer. If you're dragging yourself to the word processor, shut it off. Go look at a pretty girl. Spend some more time at the gym. Go to your local Harley dealership, most of the 2013 models are out--and the new CVO Breakout is stunning! You're defined in life by what you do. And if you write crap, you'll be known as a crappy writer. Take a breath, the internet will be there tomorrow, just like a festering wart...
