For a bit of fun. I wanted to know what people prefer; Godfather or Goodfellas? I prefer Goodfellas, but what do you think?
Liked 'em both, but definitely preferred The Godfather. It's kinda neat that Goodfellas was based on a true story (I believe?), but the diner scene with Michael in part 1 is the ****.
Yes it was based on a true story. A few months back the telegraph did a piece on the real "Henry Hill", who I believe hasn't been out of hiding for very long. It was really interresting. They are both brilliant films (and books). The narration of Henry Hill is what wins it for me.
That's tough...I love them both. I think The Godfather is so multi-layered that it has to win; Goodfellas must've been quite heavily unfluenced by it too. However, Goodfellas has equal amounts to offer to the film industry, just in different ways. It's pure entertainment. Sheesh, I can't decide. And I have to deal with it all on this, the day of my daughters weddin'.
Two different movies here, like comparing The Empire Strikes Back to Wrath of Khan. But... The Godfather II.
Goodfallas is a top movie, but The Godfather is so much more than a movie, it's an experience. Donnie Brasco is also a pretty cool movie.
Goodfellas is a great movie and I think it is a must-see, but The Godfather is my absolute favourite. So many brilliant scenes, and so much depth.
Heather, don't worry, I've also only ever seen Goodfellas- while we even own the Godfather. Yeah... I'm more loserish!
I'm going to agree with Speedy here, because I've actually seen this one. And Lydia, methinks the two of us need to watch more movies.
Yep, I agree..for me Donnie Brasco v Goodfellas would be a much closer call..with DB just edging it (largely because of Al Pacino's choice of home attire.)
Goodfellas is a great film, but The Godfather is even better! "Ti faccio un'offerta che non puoi rifiutare..." (I'll make you an offer you cannot refuse) ...that's why!
