A very specific kind of poison.

Discussion in 'Research' started by Vance, Feb 5, 2011.

Is anyone aware of a sort of poison that takes around ten minutes to work, has no(strong) signs of its effect before then, and causes the victim's body to spasm around a bit before he dies?

    Example:

Victim takes poison. Ten minutes later, he falls down, unable to control his muscles properly, then finally dies from the poison.

    ---

Thanks for the attention in advance. I've been researching poisons looking just for the one I need to achieve the effect I want but they usually fall just short of the timeframe I'm looking for.

Have you tried reading about poisons from Amazonian Tree Frogs lol Thats the one the old fashioned detective novels always fell back on for that scenario. Although I think death is usually quicker.

In World War II agents on special missions would sometimes carry cyanide capsules. If they were in danger of being caught they would take the poison. Within 5-10 minutes they would be dead.

And it wasn't a pleasant death. If they were lucky they would slip into a coma and die. Those that didn't would suffer seizures, apnea, and eventually cardiac arrest resulting in death.

Cyanide! Can't believe I forgot that one! Thank you, that would be perfect.

Haha, yeah. I'm writing a mystery novel, so I needed the right poison for a trick to work.

Yea, but strychnine is usually ingested. That takes 30-40 minutes which is longer than the OP wanted.

Did the OP say something a not ingesting the poison?

The "cool" thing about strychnine is that it causes a terrible death with spasms that can break the back and put a Joker smile on your face.

It's ok, as long as you don't mention Al-Qaeda in the same thread.

    Oops.
