Wow. Blame culture reaches a new low... Or high, depending on how you look at it.

I feel sorry for the Army Corp of Engineers. Especially since for some odd reason their taking all the blame which really should be shared with a host of other groups that could have prevented the disaster easily, including the city of New Orleans itself.

They're being responsible. Something which is lacking in the world today.

Blow yourself to pieces because you're too dumb to realize why something is plastered with WARNING labels? Don't sue the company - you're better off locking yourself away in a little white room somewhere. I can't believe how many of that kind of lawsuit there are. This is similar - they lived below sealevel. If they didn't have flood insurance, well, I don't really know what to say.

Well put, MarcG. I'd say it's an occupational hazzard, really.

ACE informed the officials of New Orleans in 1986 that the I design levees could break under enough stress. They advised upgrading to T design but the city officials refused saying that upgrading the levees would cost to much money. On top of that the Levee's in New Orleans have broken multiple times in the last 30 years, though never to Katrina's degree.

ACE is partly to blame as there were design flaws in the I levees in the first place but their not the only ones who should be taking the heat.

Still, I really respect them for stepping up to take the blame. Those who would do that are few a far between nowadays.

Well, let's see. They are taking this case to a US court, which exists within the US government...

Not to say the merits of the case won't get a fair hearing, but what judge wouldn't look at the damages requested and feel tempted to throw it out of court and impose a huge fine for filing a frivolous lawsuit?

Such cases bring ridicule on the concept of justice in America.

I just wanted to confirm that I do agee with you. I just think its unfair that they are taking so much heat for being the only group to take their responsibility for the disaster. Guess that is what happens though...

stupid to the max, imo... it's definitely a 'frivolous' suit to sue for more than the sued party could possibly pony up... is there even that much money on the planet?...

Oh, don't worry. If they win, it'll only lead the US and as a result, the world into recession.

But then the people of the world can file a class action lawsuit against them for $300 quadrillion. This could end up ushering in a new era of global prosperity! :)

Wow... So many things wrong with a single sentence.

Does anyone else ever wonder why the internet doesn't just collapse in on itself?
