My name is Holly, I live in Colorado Springs, USA, with my father. I'm 16 and I'm up way too early this morning. It's just gone 6am. I'm hoping to be able to contribute something to these boards in the near future. I attend highschool, and work part time at a local pizza place. My boyfriend lives in Australia as of March this year, and though I'm fairly sweet on him, I don't expect to see him again anytime soon. I have a dog, a golden retriever named Squid, who my dad named, and he is a real darling. I've been writing creative fiction since the sixth grade, and it has just been a past-time that I enjoy and get a little satisfaction from. My best subjects in school are English, Science and Mathematics, which is rather bland since they are pretty much the core subjects that everyone does well at, however I particularly enjoy, in school and out of school, learning about creative writing, biology, and algebra. I don't know why algebra fascinates me the way it does, but it's something to do. I'm still not sure what I will do after high school, but I would prefer to study mathematics or a scientific discipline at university, and my dad has suggested physics, which covers both science and mathematics. It would be a hugely challenging field, so I haven't really decided yet. Dad is an officer in the air force going on fifteen years, and I can tell that he would be extremely proud of me if I decided to pursue a career along the same lines as him, but he has never pressured me in that direction. I never cared much for Shakespeare when we first studied his work in the seventh grade, but I've recently been looking into it more, starting with recent movies based on his plays, and now I'm reading all of his work. It is another thing that fascinates me, and I find myself laughing at his plots a lot more now than I did at first. He is one of my main sources of inspiration and ideas. My favorite books and movies change as I read and watch more, so it would be pointless to list them. I'm also pretty new to the whole internet concept, as I didn't have an internet connection until just after I turned fifteen, and even then, I didn't have much interest in it. I think that's about enough out of me for now, and I'll learn some more about the way things work on this site before posting any more.
Hello Holly, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hey Holly I love equations of any form they have their own beauty - once you have the basis of algebra it unlocks so much knowledge and ability to study. My top subjects at school were English and Chemistry for some odd reason lol However been left more of my life than I was in school. Charlotte
Hi Holly, I must disagree with everyone does well on Math, I actually stuggled with it. I excelled later on it, but for the most part, especially high school, I really didn't "get it". I love your dogs name and really miss CSP! My husband was stationed at Carson. I loved it! The Garden of the Gods was my favorite place. But I haven't been there in nearly 10 years. Great to meet you!
