    Need help with Character Name!!

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by hrdoyle3, Aug 3, 2012.

I am currently writing a story featuring a female main character. The story is set in a dystopian society in the not so distance future. (So names that are too futuristic are not ideal).

She is 16 years old living with her older brother. Their parents are dead. She has one close friend. Her brother is taken by the society. She sets out to find him.

A few words to describe her personality:
Strong, determined, passionate, hardheaded, and, as the story develops, becomes more opinionated

I really like simple names such as Alice or Lucy(these are the baby names my fiance and I have chosen so I prefer not to use them)

Surname suggestions are not needed, but appreciated!

Simple names are great! There is Catherine/Katherine which can be simplified into the nicknames: Kit, Kitty, Cat/Kat, ect. Anne, Jane, (which you can always spell differently: Jayne or Jaine), Molly, Jennifer, Sarah/Sara, Lynne, Sue, Mary, Margaret(Maggie, Meg). Or you could choose a longer name and shorten it: Victoria (Vicki/Vickie, Tory, Ria, Vic), Minerva (Minnie, Mina, Min), Benedicta (Ben, Bennie, Ned), Stephanie (Steph), Meredith (Merry), Henrietta (Henry, Hank, Rett, Etta), Aurelia (Aura, Lia), Michaela (Miki, Mikey, Kay), Elizabeth (Ellie, Elle, Eli, Liz, Lizzie, Beth, Betty, Bette, Eliza), or Charlotte(Char, Charlie, Lottie). Brenna means strength, I think and Bridget is also similar in meaning too. If I remember correctly. There are also: Rae, Mae, Fae, Leah, Wynne (originally a boy's name), Mia, Vera, Lara, Kira, Zoe (means alive), Jenna, Audrey, Aubrey, Audra, Una, Ena/ Enya, Jessica, Rachel, Melanie, Lily, Ivy, Lulu, Fern, Joan, Eleanor, Helen, Rebecca/Rebekah(Reba, Becky, Bex, Beck) or Dana. I kind of got carried away(sorry) but I love names and I hope that this helps:) Alice and Lucy are beautiful names and congratulaions!
