Bad Dialogue vs Good Dialogue (Writing Advice) - YouTube I feel he nailed the sections on bad dialog. The good substitutes... what say you?
Excellent video. I liked the "natural dialog" point 1. He mentions the story world, which is what defines the naturalness of the dialog. Unsaid, though I wish it wouldn't have been, is that dialog from the real world doesn't necessarily work in the story world. That's because the story world is not the real world. Even if it's meant to be, it never aligns with it perfectly.
Found some good advice in the video. I get why the LotR or Stars Wars scenes could have been written more precisely (Bilbo-Frodo scene needing less bluntness and more tension, or the issue with Anakin talking too flowery in the garden), but I still enjoy those scenes.
