In the following dialogue, was it right to put a comma after the first experession since there was dialogue to follow?. If anybody can clarify I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks. Yes, the comma is correct in this instance. You've attached a tag to the dialogue, and together they form one sentence. Without the tag you could have, for example: "Well, I'm gonna propose to you now." Chance got to one knee.....etc
john's right... and it has nothing to do with more dialog following the first bit, because they're not a single sentence that's been interrupted by the dialog tag, but two separate sentences...
