Exactly. I haven't been disagreeing with what we're capable of, or have already achieved, I simply feel that there is no current need nor possibility of travelling large distances in space. In the far distant future however, when we are faced with the imminent destruction of the star that has allowed intelligent life to flourish on Earth, hopefully then, we will be capable of getting the hell out of here!
Most earthlings don't think that they are the only life in this universe. Most earthlings think that there are superior forms of life which live on a different plane or dimension or spiritual realm if you will. They call these God, spirits, gods, angels, demons. As for material life on other planets, well, from the standpoint of most earthlings that depends on whether an ID has chosen to place any there or not and not on whether the planet has the right environment or is located in the Goldilocks Zone as astronomers glibly say. From that ID standpoint we can assume that if one star, our sun, has the function of sustaining life, then other stars somewhere also have that identical function. Just like observing the function of anything else in nature. BTW Many other stars not serving the life-sustaining purpose can be viewed as element-production factories.
