    Greetings from the Noodle

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by noodlepower, Jun 30, 2012.

    Hello!

First, I'll just say I'm really, really, really bad with introductions. I never seem to know what to write for the simple fact I hate writing about myself.

Secondly, I'm a nursing student at the moment. Although, I've always wanted to write; I had dreams of writing when I was in high school. I won writing contests, had my work featured in newspapers, and was even offered an internship at a publishing company all before I'd even turned 18. Unfortunately, my family and teachers thought my dream was unrealistic and pushed me down a more practical route. Not that I blame them or anything - I'm quite happy with the way my life turned out. Even though I've worked at least ten different jobs and switched my major about five times, I finally decided to settle on a career choice.

But I always have that lingering feeling of what if...

And finally, I'm here because I still write from time to time. The old saying is if you don't use it, you lose it which is apparently true. While I could easily string together poems in my youth, I find it much harder these days. I still write short stories from time to time and once I start, it's like the words flow magically from somewhere inside me and it feels good.

Also, I'm really shy about posting on forums. Weird - I know. I'll post sometime but I think I might do more lurking than posting. I hope that's ok! But I also hope to meet other people who are writers so that we might learn from each other (hence the reason I'll actually post sometimes)!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Don't worry about being bad with introductions (we all are). At least you are awesome with pseudonyms.

I agree with you about the "use it or lose it" mentality and it's kind of frustrating that we can't always find the time to write everyday with the hectic pace of modern life. We just need to make an effort and do what we can.

On a side note, being realistic is overrated. No one ever accomplished anything great by being realistic.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, noodlepower!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hello, and welcome to the forums! I am new here too.

I can sort-of relate to your situation--I think it's been about 5 times that I've switched majors! Although looking for something "practical" to do professionally was mainly my fault.
