    Greetings My Good Fellows

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by LeslieAnne, May 16, 2010.

Hello Everyone, and thanks for taking the time to view. I'm Leslie, I've been dusting off my writing skills lately and I thought a good friendly forum would be a great place for me to flex some muscles and get some non-biased feedback. I am looking to strengthen and to grow, not for an ego petting session or a bash session. I've poked around a bit, and so far I have enjoyed what I have read. I"m glad I found the site, and I am excited to get crafty.

I am an artists at my core, I love creating and entertaining with just about everything. I just recently became a momma to a beautiful little boy, so writing affords me creative outlet while tending to my baby boy, Sullivan. I'm happily married, we just bought a house, and life is good right now. I have had the good fortune of having some poetry published, the first of which was a poem I wrote in elementry school that was published in the local paper. (Yup, I still have the clipping.) I have also written a few movie/music reviews for a local entertainment mag. Currently I am working on a comedy/thriller novel called "Whispers" about a twenty-something young girl who has spent her last eight years hiding her ability to see ghosts. Then after a fateful bump on the head, the walls she had built up to block out the spirit world crash down around her and the dead love from her past begins to haunt her. It's still in beginning stages, but I'm excited to have it as a small retreat from Mommyhood!

Look forward to chatting it up with you all! Please be well...

    Sincerest Affection,

    Leslie

Hello Leslie, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Thanks for the welcome. Mantha, I could hardly give myself the title of "Movie Reviewer", I did it only a few times, so it's not a standing gig. But I wouldn't turn down the opportunity at all!!! :)

I hope you find the time to post some stuff on the site as I am eager to read the work of a fellow artist. what type of art do you enjoy the most ? For me I enjoy craving plaster the most. I wish you luck with your new son and with your house. It's best to smile in life so dont forget what your feeling right now.

    Brandon, thank you for posting.

I love to paint. Abstract. I also like doing 'found art' collages and some jewelry making when the mood hits me. I also am a performer, I love the stage. I sing, and am an actor as well. I will be posting some of my pieces on here, and I thank you ahead of time for your interest.
    I hope you are well!
