Guessing Your Book/Work by it's Soundtrack

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by OmniTense, Nov 16, 2019.

So the object is simple here. You post your Book/Story's soundtrack(a list of songs that you feel best represents your book's atmosphere or sequence of events) Many of us, I'm sure have even worked this out before now. The next poster will try to guess your work's genre. This book could be a WIP, already written or even invented on the spot and purely speculative. Now, obviously, don't throw some songs together and claim it's a book just to confuse someone. Also, if you feel the soundtrack is too slim a clue, you may include a working title/alternative title/actual title.

I'll let the next poster start things off.

Damn. My daily playlist has half of these artists. This is just the soundtrack that's running in the back of my head. Your work has good taste in music. Haven't listened to Blutengel in a long time, tho. Good times.

My first guess would be horror. One might say that's too pat for a guess, but I feel if I was trying to summon the attitude I need to splatter some horror-genre typeface to page, I might listen to this. But I had to bite my fingers to keep from typing Cyberpunk/Horror. Idk, why, btw...just where my mind went.

I lost my playlist of almost 4000 songs, plus a few others when I tanked my youtube channel. :p
I had loads more, but that is all I could remember off the top of my head that actually apply to
    the story.

    Close-ish. It is a mix of Sci-fi/Horror/Adventure/Erotica/Mystery.
Strange I know, but I wanted to write something less gore and death
filled, than my first novel which is a Grim/Sci-fi/War. :)

I definitely caught the Sci-Fi influence, if sub-consciously, dunno why I got Cyberpunk. The songs had kind of a gritty social-realism quality that you find in industrial music, think my brain just interpreted it that way. The Erotica aspect I wasn't sure whether that was specific to the genre or just certain scenes in the work. Is it a space Sci-Fi or planet-bound, I wonder...

I confess. I went with horror, because I was trying to play it safe. lol Ah well, I'll take close-ish.

*wanders off listening to Lord of the Lost*

Well a massive part of the story takes place on an orbital ring that is basically an
    adult playground. :p
I can see where you drew upon the Cyberpunk, but I think Industrial can work
in Sci-fi as well. (Not sure if I have ever read any Cyberpunk to be honest.).

From what I can gleen, it is a bit Steampunk/Victorian.
Possibly a little Dieselpunk/1950-ish style, with a peppy
Noir feel for a touch of grit.:)

I am gonna say light Fantasy/Noir/Mystery/Light Adventure.

You nailed everything but the Fantasy. Sci-Fi/Murder Mystery/Noir/Light Adventure. Now when I say Sci-Fi, I mean it takes place maybe a decade and a half in the future and there's slightly better tech.

It was a tough call, but I can understand the more near future Sci-fi bit. :)
