    Hallo alle!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Cam The Lamb, Jun 20, 2009.

    Hallo alle!
No I am not German, I just prefer originality and variation =D.
My name is Cameron, and I am 15 years old.
I figured after viewing many creative threads on this site for entertainment and learning purposes I would create an account of my own in hopes of bettering the community and spreading my own techniques.
My writing style is all original and include variations of just about every genre (my first sentence pretty much told you that =P).
I write as an escape and for entertainment as of now, though having it as a career is not too shabby either.
Anyways, better stop here before I write an entire page as my introduction...
    but ya...hello all! :D

Hello Cameron, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hello! Looks like you're starting off pretty young. Don't repeat my mistake - start doing some real work now, while you're still at it, and coming to a good forum like this is a good step. Good luck with your projects!

Hello Cameron. Your message caught my attention because it reminded me of dutch. Only maybe an incomplete sentence in dutch. I actually went and translated it since I always want to check things out for myself :). Atleast you were right on. Like Cogito said, it's really good to read and review other writings as well. It has been really helpful for me to learn from people with experience. I at first wanted to post something as well, but decided to wait until I finished the whole book before I attempted to do that. I also realized that I had to be really careful about what I published on this site, since if I ever plan to publish my book, I need to be sure the whole story isn't published on the internet. Small parts are ok, but be careful with anything more than that.
You are able to enter short story or poetry contests, and doing something like that helps you show of you skills without worrying about any long term commitments.
If you are really as creative as you say you are, then I am really looking forward to your comments. It's always fun to read comments which are creative and different.
