    The Lies We Tell Ourselves

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Snoopingaround, Sep 17, 2011.

There are some things that we do not want to admit to ourselves. We keep secrets, not just from others, but tucked away in the dark recesses of our own minds, because we fear them. We sometimes prefer to maintain a false, illusory self-image that we superimpose over the reality which may disgust or frighten us. We do this when thinking of others whom we love and cherish, too, as the illusion that we hold of them is more acceptable for us to bear. Also, there are goals and aspirations that we hold on to which deep in our hearts we know are not attainable, but we whisper to ourselves to keep going for it, because we just cannot let an impossible dream go. There are consequences in taking the completely honest and truthful path when looking at the world sometimes, and some of us therefore deny the realities in favor of more pleasant wishful fantasies. In this place, you can admit your dark secrets, your self-inflicted delusions, and force into the beautiful light of truth that which you fear to admit. Stop denying it. Get a grip on yourself. What is it that you are hiding?
