    Firefox...yes? No?

Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by NaCl, Jul 1, 2009.

I am reluctant to "fix it when it ain't broken" but I have been told by numerous people that Firefox is better than Internet Explorer. I am having no problems with IE 8. Have you made this change from IE to FF? If so, what was your experience?

I actually use Google Chrome browser. I find it much more user friendly than IE (mind you, I only went up to IE7). The address bar doubles as a google search if you just type words in, and your home page has nine boxes on it that are links to your most visited websites.

I haven't used Firefox regularly enough to know how much better than IE it is though.

I use it mainly for the extensions and customization. Firefox is particularly great in this area.

Joel always gets on me about Firefox being better than Internet Explorer, and I always just thought he was crazy, having never noticed the difference myself. And then I got IE8...

I never had any issues with 7, but 8 has been driving me up the wall.

I use firefox, and I love it. I just find it easier to use than IE.

Chrome isn't bad, but it's so slow...

I use IE as my primary browser. I do use other browsers, but primarily for testing web pages I put up, to make sure there are no browser-specific glitches in the page code.

In my experience, there are a lot of people who simply decide it's better if it works well and isn't Microsoft.

I like firefox better. But that's just personal preference. The pop up blocker works better, especially for my oh-so-ancient computer.

Bless you. If only others were wise enough to do this.

I use Opera. Latest release has me on the fence, but I'm quite confortable with it.

I really like Safari on my Mac, which I believe is also available to Windows now. I still use Firefox, though. I really love it. It's easy to use, and the pop-up blocker is wonderful!

    I'd forgotten about Safari...

I think my dislike for that stems mainly from Apple's invasive attempts to spread it. The itunes update feature is so annoyingly persistant, trying to give you Safari, it really gets on my tits...

I'm not biased against IE. It's a simple fact that it's slower than molasses in January on my PC. Every PC in the house, actually. Firefox is at least twenty times faster for me. I'm not even exaggerating here.

Joel downloaded Firefox for me yesterday, so I guess we'll see if I like it more than IE after I get used to it.

So far, I haven't noticed any big differences.

I have Firefox, though I rarely use it.

Actually I think it's more the situation of comfort level.

Technically, like Wrey said, they're the same things. But differences vary.

Like, for instance,Em said her Firefox is good for blocking pop-ups, that's one area, firefox gave me trouble in.

Plus, I found that after loading firefox, my system started slowing down processes, I'm not really sure of the reason why, though I have an inkling, but I'll check it up and let you know.

On the other hand, a friend of mine is really comfortable with Chrome. She finds it easier to handle than either IE, or Firefox.

As for the differences within versions itself. Ithink IE8 is much better than 7. 7 had a lot of glitches and kept shutting down time an again if the processes taking place exceeded a certain level.

There are a lot of other things to be taken into consideration, like the system capacity, and the system itself, as well as caching. But lets not get into it.

The bottom line is, I'd say, you should give it a try. If you find you're more comfortable with IE, you can always uninstall the firefox.

First time I downloaded FF was because of a recommendation, I quickly fell in love with the tab function of the browser and I used it till I got my new laptop. By then IE included tabs as well but I found that it started to lag at perhaps 5 tabs, even 3 so I downloaded FF the same hour I got the PC. Firefox can handle over 100 tabs without noticeable lag.

Can both FF and IE run simultaneously on a computer? It might be nice to compare them side by side.

Just yesterday Mozilla launched their Firefox 3.5 Browser. It's supposedly better than IE8--faster and with more features. I've been using IE8 happily. I also like Chrome, but for some reason it seems to be slower than IE8.

I've just downloaded the FF 3.5 browser. We'll see if it's all that.

Absolutely. Most web developers have multiple browsers installed to ensure cross compatibility of the pages, particularly the client-side scripts.

I have IE, Firefox, opera, and chrome on my rig. Hands down, firefox wins.

Ie is fine as a backup, but other than that... meh.

Opera is fine but a bit slow

Chrome is a failboat. Marketed as the fastest browser out upon release it was filled with bugs and security leaks. It's since slowed down.

Safari is apple, so it's automatically junk like everything else apple touches.
