Novels that describe contemporary life in some countries

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by Senko, Jan 12, 2017.

I remember having read a few novels that, even though they were fiction novels, depicted some aspects of life in some specific countries.

For example, reading "Wild Swans", I was impressed to find a lot of facts and things to discover about China, from generations before. Of course, it is rather an autobiographic book, and it's more focused on past times.

It would be interesting to find novels that describe some interesting aspects about specific countries, but focusing more on contemporary life. (social, cultural, political aspects, or just everyday life)

What books do you know that tell us about contemporary life in some specific countries (with settings from actual time to the past 5 or 10 years)? (preferably fiction novels, but they might as well be autobiographic.)
