    Your Basic Generic Introduction Thread!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by TheHedgehog, May 6, 2009.

Hello. My username is TheHedgehog. But you may call me Hedge, Hedgey, any variation, really. As long as it works for you :-D. I am a guy, thirteen years old, and still developing my writing style, so don't hesitate to help me! :D I like to cook, play music on the viola (bigger version of the violin), read and write, surf, all that good stuff.

I listen to almost any and everything. From Reggae to Indie-Rock to Electronic to Punk. Some examples would be Matisyahu, MGMT and The Working Title, Perpetual Groove, Owl City, etc.

I've been on a few forums like this before, but not one this big.

    Hey.

Hello Hedge, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Ev ery forum is different, so thanks for taking the time to learn tbe local customs.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Hello and welcome TheHedgehog.

May you find the words to say what you think you might be trying to say unless you find other words that might work more betterer!

Cogito, thanks! I'll definetly be checking out other authors' works on the Forum. Like I said, I've written and been on Forums here, but most of them have been for MMORPG's. This one is actually for real writing, and not fiction based off of computer games. The freedom is both exciting and intimidating. I was also used to a very defined group of authors, but this one seems much more diverse, like its literary content. I'm very excited to be apart of this place.

Tall and Weird, thank you as well. Yes, I will try to find the words to express what I want to! :D Hedge will work for a nickname, and if there's any title you prefer to go by, lemme know :]

Dalouise, hey! Thanks for the warm welcome. I like the quote in your signature, very nice.

    Rainshadow, thanks for posting, buddy.

fantasy girl, I feel much less fish-out-of-water with another thirteen-year-old. Don't worry, my grammar isn't the best either. :D Co-writing would be fun.

All my online-writing has been for MMORPG games, so I started out in fantasy. But I'm working on a current Satire-Mystery. I also like to read Satire and Mystery (fiction, of course). Just finished a very good book called The Hidden and it was a mystery.

    What about you?
