    Hello Friends

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by GypsyToes, Dec 29, 2007.

Hi Everyone! I would like to start out by saying thank you for giving myself and others a chance to express, share and learn through this forum.

I grew up loving to write. Throughout my adolesence and teen years I would spend hours writing short stories, poetry and music, amazed at what a deep & imaginative ride my mind could take me on once I opened it. Writing was always my forte in school, whether it be writing short essays about my summers for English class, or a long report on Pocahontas rescuing John Smith - I always came out with A's and much praise from my teachers and professors.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, I tapped out of my passion for writing. Maybe it was the onset of a nine to five job, or the fact that i wasn't being challenged anymore once I left school, or simply the ever-looming excuse of not enough time.

Well, I have decided for my main New Year's resolution, I will pick up a pen, pencil, crayon..whatever! and begin writing again. I will dust off my many blank journals I have bought (as a form of self motivation that never got off the ground.or the pen..) and will embark on filling them with thoughts, stories, poetry, dreams, and quotes i love. I will start an online blog, which I will promise to contribute to daily but I know it will turn into an entry every 3 or 4 days..but I will write. I will write letters - long, classic letters to my family and friends, instead of quick emails with petty thoughts and small-minded replies that they will delete after glancing over. I want them to have real physical letters that they will read and smile at and form visuals and laugh..letters they can age & weather & crinkle and spill coffee on and put in the back of their dresser drawers..only to pull them out & read on those rainy days and laugh and smile all over again.

I could go on and on, the writing bug is biting and no longer will I shoo it away. With that being said, Hello everyone! I look forward to sharing and reading your works in this upcoming year. Cheers and peace to all!
    Jenny

Hello Jenny, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

I think it's not unusual to step away from writing for a while. I know I did. Writing demands so much of the writer, and life makes many demands of its own.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Welcome to the site Jenny! It's a pretty smart idea to have it as a resolution, and I'm sure your passion for writing will return. I hope we can help you with this resolution,so whenever you need anybody, feel free to contact.
