    Hello from Australia.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by MissBee, Mar 16, 2015.

I am new to writing and still have a lot to learn. I was always a story teller and one day a friend told me to write down a bed time story I told her son. I can not say I have always been interested in novels and I myself haven't read to many books or know of any great works aside from the most popular which I still need to read but due to my new found interest in fantasy writing I have a lot to learn if I want to share my imagination to the world. If anyone has any tips or any authors they recommend I'd be super happy to take a look.

Hi @MissBee, welcome to the forum.

Here are the latest books that drew me in (more sci-fi than fantasy):
    Hyperion
    Drood

    Lilith's Brood
    Kindred

    The Doubt Factory
Not my favorite but others who liked the author of The Doubt Factory like this one better:
    The Windup Girl

    The Fifth Wave

    An old favorite of mine:
Battlefield Earth (the book, forget how horrendous the movie was)

Of course, The Hunger Games (again the book, not the movie)

    The Night Circus

    The Harry Potter Series.

I've not read yet but my son has bought me a copy:
    The Fifth Child

Thank you for your reply, I will most definitely be checking out these aside from The Hunger Games as I have read them due to my disappointment of the movie.

Always read the book before seeing the movie. :)

I also lean far more towards sci-fi than fantasy, but in terms of fantasy, Neil Gaimen is always a fun read.

I've never read any sci-fi to know if I enjoy it. I have heard of Neil Gaimen and is on my list of Authors to look up.

I am from Victoria originally but I can't say that I've ever heard of that town. I was a city kid. Living about an hour out of the Melbourne CBD. Ironically I now live about an hour out of Brisbane CBD.

I hope you find your inspirations and answers throughout the forums.
