Hello, my name is Colton, I’m 16 years old and an English major. I listen to Staind, 2Pac, Linkin Park, Elvis, and a bunch of bands you’ve never heard of. My writing is like that of an old fool undergoing a midlife crisis, and I have had my life altered irreparably by the court system. Who knew? I enjoy writing just about anything. I'm coming out of that angst drenched phase and stepping into a more pensive persona when it comes to poetry. To be honest, I've never tried to write a short story, the likely reason being that I'm tremendously lazy. My philosophy dictates that I learn how to write correctly before I begin writing as anything more than a hobby, but I'm quite content with my hobby at the moment. I'm from the US, more specifically Texas, so (according to a couple of stereotypes and the image of a current political leader…) I'm doubly ignorant. Feel free to make your jokes, I know that y'all have a few.
Heya! Welcome to the forums, I hope you stick around and find what you're looking for If you have any questions at all just ask
Hello Colton, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Kit, Cogito, Torana, my thanks goes out to each of you. It's nice to be so warmly welcomed into the site.
In college by 16; that's a fairly unusual feat. I also struggle writing stories, especially when it comes to plot. At this point I have had very limited success in writing any great (or even average) literary masterpieces, despite several attempts. The search to attain that level continues for me though. I'm not giving up. Welcome to you and your music (of which you claim we've never heard).
I'm most amazed by the fact you have one of the coolest names imaginable. I named a character Colton once. I guess I envy you slightly.
More warm welcomes! Rocky - Well, yes and no. I wouldn't call it a feat so much as a fluke and something of a failure. However, I will rise, gripping to the tales of my music. ILTBY - Thanks, and Terry Pratchet speaks the truth. Drop Bear - Ha, well I'm quite at home in a nut house, so I don't imagine that we'll be having many problems. Blue Mouth - It does sound rather intriguing, no? Then again, its not all that meaningful. It literally means "from a coal town". My sister's name is Kialyn, pronounced Ki-lynn. How's that for unique? Anthony - My thanks go out to you, though I curse you for making your book blurb so enticing. I may have to add another novel to my list of must reads. Thanks to all, write any time.
Howdy there, pa'dner! Texas aint all oil and bull**it. Welcome and don't ever be ashamed of the Lone Star.
Ha! Thanks for the welcome Phonoho, my eyes shall look fondly upon you all the live-long day. My eyes are fixed, you won't be getting away. Don't think that you can escape them - come night or the early morn'. But no worries, you'll be granted a reprieve after Gabriel blows his horn... Good God I hope you followed that. If not I've just made myself look like a complete ass, though I may have accomplished that in any instance.
Agreed. Blue Mouth - Yep, I have some conservative yet quirky parents. ILTBY - What does the acronym stand for anyway? Also, speaking of Pratchett, how full is your glass?
'Ilovetobeyoung' (From the song, I'm not just really pretentious ) I used it on another site, then shortened it to ILTBY and now I use it everywhere. My glass is full
No worries, you don't strike me as pretentious. You strike me as a Pratchett fan that enjoys good lyrics.
