Hi, I am relatively new to writing on a regular basis. I have always been a fan of science fiction and fantasy and most of my work tends to fall into one of these two genres but I also enjoy horror and thrillers. I spent a large portion of my early life unsure of what direction to go in from a career standpoint. Eventually it dawned on me that since I enjoy stories so much I should try to write my own. I completed one novel and then got about 50,000 words into my second before ditching it. I am currently working on a new novel (with no plans of ditching it this time). I was looking for a place where I could interact with and bounce ideas off of other writers and after scrolling through and finding some intelligent discussions here I signed up. I'm twenty eight and live on the east coast of the United States. I love to read. Recently its been a challenge finding enough time to allocate to reading and writing (More, more, more my brain always says) but I manage as well as I can. I also enjoy exercise (running, weight lifting, swimming), nutrition, sports, and video games.
Welcome Dr Jerry, You have arrived at the right place. WoW! you must have felt a loss at putting aside such a developed writing project. Glad to hear you have made the decision to keep moving forward with your writing. I am a newbie on this forum too, and am enjoying the company as well as learning from reading available advice. Good luck with your latest project, and look forward to seeing your work if you decide to show it on here.
Yes, a bit. I did get some practice out of it though and am trying not to repeat the same mistakes I made that led me to quit so I suppose it was not a total loss. Thank you!
Welcome. I've also got one of those developed and ditched works. Maybe one day...for now it isn't inspiring me.
Hi Dr Jerry! I'm one of the forum moderators, and I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to you. The fact that you have 'already written,' is a wonderful start. You know that feeling then. To have finished a novel. Even if it didn't turn out exactly as you wished (and maybe it did ...you don't say) you know you did it. There is now a novel in existence that wasn't there before. And you've started two more. I also joined the forum several moons ago because I wanted to connect with other people who also write novels. I didn't have (at that time) any luck finding a local group of people who were writing novels, and I felt out of step with the poets and short-story writers in my local writing groups. As you know, novel-writing is a different animal from these other media. Anyway, I'm delighted I did join, and delighted to welcome you. Lots of novelists here on the forum, in various stages of development, as you may have already discovered. You'll also find that science fiction and fantasy are two of the most popular genres here on the forum. You are in compatible company. I see you've become active on the forum since you joined up, and already have made several posts and received some 'likes.' That's a great start. Just in case you haven't read this link, I'd suggest you do.
