    Hello:)

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Emrys Rumpelstiltskin, Dec 26, 2012.

I am a 54 year old guy, picking up where I left off back when I got married too young, to a person that saw my passion as a threat.

I have enjoyed composing/writing songs since I was 8yo. I am back and ready to go. I am working through a "songwriting" course with hopes that it will help me work toward getting the rust off.

I see I will have to critique others members works to have mine critiqued, so please, if I critique your work don't take it personal:) It's only my opinion....

I wish everyone much fun and success in your endeavors!!!

Welcome! I very much like your user name. I respect and applaud you for going back to your passion as a song writer. I look forward to reading (and maybe hearing?) some songs!! And maybe you will also find yourself overwhelmed with a desire to write other pieces as well.

Welcome to Writing Forums, Emrys Rumpelstiltskin!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks so much!....I did have a poem published long time ago, just don't remember by whom though I looked it up a few years ago and I found it, so I may try again....

It was during a down time of life, so, it was like singing the blues when your down....It comes very easy..lol

I do love fantasy as it allows the imagination to go wherever it wants without borders:)

    Thanks again...See you around:)

Oh, I've been singing the blues for a few months now. Writing leaves me feeling empty, which means it's bad. I hope you find what you're looking for on here! I'm sure your work is very good, I want to read! Take care, hun. xo

    Hello,

junior members welcoming junior members, it's fun :) Seems we sympathize with each other about being new :)
    At least I do.
It is said somebody who should be close to you did not understand your desire, I can pretty understand you even
without being married. I'm through a slightly similar situation now and mostly my enemy in pursuing my desires
is myself, or the lazy self, but still, I can adress the issue you have.

You'll get a lot from this forum, it's already taught me numerous lessons, tough ones, to be sure, but I love it here.
Posting a critique is a thing I thought I would hate, but I DO love it. It's incredible to see other ppl's povs on stories
and plots etc. It's enriching, and, one day, hopefully rewarding. Sometimes the critique is tough, but always sticks to
    the point and is factual.

    Thank you!

So, if writing leaves you feeling empty, why do you write?...I am just interested because writing is a release for me. It allows me to get my thoughts and feelings out before I explode:)

    Hey Thanks....

I love hanging with writers because they allows us into themselves. Whether it be fantasy or real life.

I am sure I WILL get much from this forum, though I am a little nervous putting my stuff out to be critiqued, seen it has been so long since I have got serious with my writing. I am excited as well because with help from my friends (here in the forum) I have a chance of finding my weaknesses and turn them into strengths!:)

You are not alone, I fight my lazy self all of the time;)

    Happy to be here...Thanks again!!!

I would say one piece of afvice is to see a lot of other ppl's critiques before posting, 'cos you can learn from other ppl's
mistakes without your ego being hurt - and that pays off :D :D - one huge contributor to getting better.
Turning weaknesses into strengths seems like the thing to do here, in life respectively.

    see you :)
