Hi there, I'm the new guy. Well for this minute anyway. I'm an amateur writer, and friends tell me that I have a talent for storytelling. But you know friends; they're very kind in their criticism. I have always wanted to write more seriously but I just don't have the confidence in myself to take myself seriously as a writer. I started my own writers blog over a year ago, but stopped soon after when the first self doubt took hold that my stuff wasn't that good. I find it a shame because I enjoyed it a lot, even though I never had anymore than a few readers. My guess is there is a lot of talented writers here. People who know how to write. What I'd like to know from someone, is if I can actually write... or not. I want an honest opinion. This isn't a cheap plea to get readers to my blog. Honestly I don't care if my blog is never seen by the masses, I'm not looking for more hits. I just want someone to tell me what they think. My writing can be found in the url in my profile. My sincere thanks and gratitude to anyone that reads anything of it and says something honest. Andy.
Guten Tag Andy, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I think you'll find most members won't be all that inclined to go off this site to review writing, especially when we have so much to keep up with in the Review Room forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hi Andy, welcome to the site Like Cogito said, most of us probably wouldn't be inclined to go off the site to review your work. Instead I would suggest reviewing here and then posting your own.
