Hello, nice to meet you! My name's Adelaide, I'm 18 and from Sydney. I enjoy drawing, netball, reading and writing, though my skill and talent in each are questionable at best. One day, I plan to become a teacher, and enjoy giving feedback and constructive criticism. I look forward to perhaps participating in the Writing Workshops in this way. I'm a keen fantasy writer and reader, love a good comedy and I appreciate all creative activities and those who pursue them. I've recently come to the relieving conclusion (after much agonising and periods of intense writing immobility) that writing can be a pass time free of the restraints and expectations that academic rigour instills. From this conclusion, a renewed vigour for writing has been born, and so I have come here. It's been a fair while since I had the drive to join one of these communities, I hope the enthusiasm lasts! A few years ago I was adamant that writing was the only career for me, lest the unexpressed stories, ideas and avid descriptions I had caused me to combust. It has taken a while for me to accept my level of writing for what it is, not what I warrant it should be, but I think I've finally found a headspace I am happy with, which may nurture, or at least not pressure, my writing creativity. It's odd the extent to which I've placed writing as a skill on it's own, a world apart from others which I can clearly see as a linear progression and eventual achievement. It floats on some unattainable wavelength free from rational thought and analysis. Perhaps this is why writing has been a mirror of the confidence I keep in myself and my abilities; I've been in the trap of expecting too much and falling far too short. I'm constantly confronted by the mercurial nature that is my writing ability - sometimes relaxing but most times taxing. Well that was more cathartic than I expected! I'm quite excited to delve into the world of writing again, and this place seems like the best to do it. I hope to meet like minded people and kindred spirits who share the same love of the written word as I do. So it's great to meet you, and I hope we'll all be fast friends.

Welcome to Writing Forums, Adelaide! I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing. This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work. However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing. Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner.
