Hello Community, My name is Mick and i have joined this community to learn more about writing styles/approaches and strategies. i am a scientist by trade and as such, spend a lot of time writing (scientific articles/proposals etc) for my work. i quite enjoy it although its not as much of a creative outlet as i wish for at times. I have a strong interest in working with people (its what i do in my job) and along the way, learned a lot about supporting careers. Therefore, i am thinking to start a writing project (read book) on this topic. As i am here to learn (and help those who need it), any advice or comments are most welcome. i am looking forward towards getting to know some of you (or all?!?) as i plow my way through my project!
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're in the right place! Wow, you're a scientist. In which field? Creative writing can be quite different for sure, but it's also very liberating. Here's our New Member Quick Start to get you started. Have fun! -Kat
Dear Kat, I am a molecular plant scientist. Yes, writing will be very different but i expect for it to benefit my work greatly. Although it is not the main purpose, i am sure that my writing will improve in all areas. I just have to stick with it! thanks again for your kind reply.
Welcome. Many scientists or people in science careers have become hugely successful authors. Tess Gerritsen, an MD, is one of my favourites. I'd imagine you could write very good sci-fi if that floated your boat. Whatever genre you're looking at, non-fiction writing skills are transferable to fiction writing with a slight change of approach and a few new rules (for dialogue especially).
Thank you. I hope you are right (and will try to prove it as well!). I will have a look through the forum regarding the rules and approach. Looking forward to learning..
Welcome! Since getting involved in writing I've been amazed at the number of scientists in our world - you're in good company.
Welcome, new person. This place has been just the thing I needed to reboot my muse, so here is some good juju for your initial booting. What do you do with those plant molecules?
Each group needs at least one scientist. You're in mine. Welcome to the forums, Mick. The guys here are real talented and bright. Just be nice in your 14 day probation period...And don't look at your mirror at 11:29 PM.
