    Heys!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by wildfires, Jul 12, 2008.

    Well, I'm new, how lovely!
My name's Katherine and I'm from Manchester UK. I usually use one poetry forum but that was a little bit too samey for my liking, so I thought I'd try a new one. I'm still trying to find my style but I love writing, mainly poetry.

So yeah, hope be spending some time here, learning, reading and writing :).

    Welcome Wildfires!

I don't read poetry, but I know many other people here do. Hope to see you around other places in the forum.

Hey there, Katherine. I read poety occasionally, so maybe I'll check out your work sometime (when you post it!). Welcome to the boards!

    Thanks!
Just posted something that will hopefully help fade me in to this place quietly. I'm shy! :p

Hello Katherine, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

No worries, I'm already very used to critting other's work. I posted something because I don't want to be annoying offering my thoughts on other peoples poems without offering some of my own for the knife :).
If I've done anything wrong, I'm afraid I didn't see it in the rules!

hey wildfires! im actually new to this myself and have never actually used a forum before, so maybe we could be friends on this? haha. i also write/read a lot of poetry, but since i have recently changed my major to english here at college, ive begun to focus more on novels and plots for them. however, i get ideas for novellas and short stories from my poetry first. kind of weird, right? haha. hope to talk to you again soon! if youd like to personal message me, feel free!

Hi, wildfires. I suck at writing poetry, but if you ever need someone to critique it, feel free to send me a message. :)
