Hey, I'm Rebrella, AKA Tris. Writing has been a passion of mine since I narrated a story about a cartoon character and a carnivorous plant and my Dad wrote it down. I think you'll be glad to know that my father no longer plays the middleman in the writing process! The first time I really read felt like a magical experience to me. Now mind, I could "read", but it wasn't really reading. It was sounding out all the words and then forgetting what had been said at the beginning of the sentence. It was a frustrating process and I have rather just let a teacher or parent read it to me. But one day I came home from school to find my new Disney Adventures on the table. There was this Bone comic and it looked so interesting to me, I wanted it read to me right away. But the parental unit was busy. So I looked through it, concentrated...and just started reading. Suddenly, I wasn't just sounding letters into words. I was reading words. That was pretty cool. Anyhow, I am really getting off subject. Why am I here? Because I'm into writing. Because I feel writing (and reading too, but to me they're intertwined. You can't be a good writer without being a voracious reader) is a part of me. It defines me. If I didn't write anymore that is, if I never had another creative thought in my mind, I don't know what I'd do with myself. When I write often I feel good about myself. When I haven't written in a while, I hate myself. I AM a writer. So I came here and I starting going through some threads, and I found some interesting discussions on the character forum, and I figured, why not? I look forward to foruming with you all.
Hey there! Awesome to have you aboard! I, for one, can empathize exactly with the writing ethos; the desire to create and to express yourself in words. That's why I'm here! And hey, if you think you'd be interested, and you'd like to have some fun, come on over and check out the RPG section. We kinda build our own stories collectively. Its a great exercise in characterization and descriptive writing, and its a fun way to kinda get to know each other. Hope to see more of you!
Hello Tris, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I really find it incomprehnsible when the desires to read and to write are not close;y matched. If you truly love to read, the desire to craft your own writing seems inevitable. Likewise, I can't fathom hpw someone sould be driven to write if they don't also love to read. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thanks for welcoming me, you guys! Thanks Teele, I have done roleplaying in the past, I'll look into it when I have some more time. And thanks, Cognito. Honestly I wouldn't imagine posting my stuff here without first figuring how the forum works. Actually, I'm sort of shy about my work. I mean, it's no excuse, and I do want tough critism because I want to get better. But I have stupid nagging doubts, lol. But yeah, you'll be hearing from me more.
