    Hey!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Tommy, May 25, 2009.

I'm Tom - I'm young (15), and love writing allsorts of different things. Only problem (well personally I don't call it a problem) I have is that I HATE reading, really really HATE it. I must have read about 10 books in my life, and I'm in my last year of school, which doesn't really help me write.

When I'm happy, sad, angry, confused or just bored I like to write about new things. The feeling when I am finished is great, and I find it really fun.

I'm not spectacular at all at writing.. but I would say that I am kinda decent. My dream in life would be to work with writing. I always like to weave real-life happenings into my writing, that way I learn new things by researching them, and also teach my readers (not that I have many!) new things.

Only thing I do not like writing is comedy stories. I'm not great with those - unless they are short, I don't mind writing short ones.

I'm so excited to find a community who likes writing.. nobody I know is interested. I'm working hard now, I can not imagine work involving anything apart from writing/english.. So I am pushing myself with writing.

Well.. Nice to meet you all... See you around!

Hello Tom, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Comedy is very difficult to master. I wish you the necessary patience, along with a dribble of luck.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hi and welcome! I haven't heard of a writer who hated reading, but to each his own, huh? I like reading comedy, and I like writing it too, so maybe we could talk. :) I also love writing fantasy.

    Hiya Tom!

Wow yeah there's a new one for me too, hearing about a writer who hates reading. But hey, whatever works right?

I can't wait to read some of your work when you get around to posting it!

I'm not quite in year 11, but my school is small so now that the previous year 11's have practically finished their GCSEs, us year 10s have started our year 11 work. I only have one piece of English coursework yet to finish, I think it is a piece of poetry, and I am quite happy with that.

So, I'm a year 10 in year 11 kind of. But it all works well so it's cool.

    Tom :)
