New to this forum looks cool

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Kirby, Oct 17, 2009.

    Hi guys and gals:)

A little about me, I sketch, paint, and teach martial arts and I like girls. Im not gay, and to quote Jerry Sienfeld "not that theres anything wrong with that" Oh, and Im trying my hand at writing too.

I don't like horror or killing etc. I mean come on I go to the library and thats almost all I see its pathetic. I think society has enough stress, keep it out please. Just my opinion I was on a kick listening to audio cd's, couldn't find anything decent to listen too, or maybe I just didn't know what was good. I listened to some of John Grisham's stuff and some author that wrote some dirty stuff. Geeze. I listend to another one based on theisland of Crete that was interesting. It started out bad, a whole boat full of tourist accidently exploded at the dock. You get to here the stories of some tourist that had just left the boat and there stories.

So I'm new to writing and I'm starting a book you can see it all on my link below. I encourage people to comment about it, just drop a note nothing elaborate to save your time. I'm sure your interested in seing someone post a book on the internet as they write it. Do people do that or am i just stupid?

I have graduated college and yes I've taken English classes but it basically went through one ear out the other.

I stumbled on a website while searching for stuff about writing a book and came acrross a challenge of writing 500 words a day. Cool! I know all about challenges and they can really help through the tough times when you don't feel like doing them. Thats why there challenges right.

Anyhow, I don't want to drag on here but to let people know I'm not that good at righting, oops writing see I just caught that after proof reading, good gosh:eek:. I don't read books. In fact the last book I read was probably the only book I finished reading in a very long time. I mean years. It was non-fiction a book called Rebecca a wooden sailboat which was totaly rebuilt. An awesome book to read. Hopefully I will read more books soon.

It seems kind of easy just put in 500 words a day and go for it, but Im already finding myself researching because I don't know a lot about the area the books based in. Never been there.:(

You guys need a thumbs up smily in here. I'm grateful to find this forum and can't wait to explore.

Hello Kirby, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Wow, for the first few sentences I almost thought you were describing myself. We're a little bit different but otherwise I really think you seem like a cool kid. You have my stamp of approval; welcome to the story forums! I'm Greg. :D

    Cogito thanks for the headsup,

I pulled the post off my blog. Sorry guys if yall missed it.

Am I safe now. I did searches can't find any traces of it. Even cached pages but may have to wait a little longer for that. I removed any suggestions of titles etc. from my other blog.

Boy, just read my post here in this thread. Snip, snip, lol. More proof reading huh?

Anyway thanks for the comments Greg :D and ChimmyBear and Cogito I'll be clicking those links soon.
