To whom this may concern, Ever since covid-19 was introduced by the oh so generous thing we call life, I have been unemployed. I have no earthly idea what I really want to do in life, since the global plague started and tore, spit, and shat on my entire reality and routine. After two months of sulking, my loving wife recommended I find a hobby for the moment and redefine myself. I shrugged and sighed followed by unenthusiastic grunts, but she held a very good point. Now, I here. An uncharted world to redefine my realty and perspective til the day the grand curtain falls. In short, My name is Daniel. Please to be here.
Writing is fun and you don't have to write stories. You can write anecdotes, you can write commentary, or just write down the things you see and hear around you (I guess that was easier before Lockdown)
Welcome! I'm Iain, one of the mods here. If you haven't had a chance to yet, be sure to check out New Member Quick Start and Forum Rules, and don't be shy about contacting me or one of the other mods (jannert, big soft moose, minstrel, and EFMingo) if you have any questions or problems. You'll need to have two weeks' membership, twenty posts (which include two constructive critiques of others' writing) before you can post in the Workshop for critique of your own work, but until then, feel free to poke around and jump into any one of the numerous discussions that are ongoing here. Those initial requirements will fly by. Boredom can be a terrible thing, but writing can help. Everybody's in the same boat now but we've all got a different outlook (or inlook these days) on it. You're unemployed? That sucks, but maybe take a look at how it doesn't suck and tell us about it. I've got to telecommute until at least September, but I just realized that there are at least three people at my office that I don't have to see! Man that lifted a weight off my shoulders. Or write from the bottom of that deep hole of boredom and describe in minute detail the texture of the walls, the depth of the pool of tears on the floor, and the taste of the recycled air in the breezeless nadir of the world. As Sean Connery said in Finding Forrester, "Punch the keys, for God's sake!" You never know what might come out.
Coronavirus may be a horrible thing, but it's good to see people trying to make the best of it... or being nudged to by their wife. As @AMP said, don't feel you have to do any specific type of writing. The best thing to do is to muck about a bit, play in the river, see what takes your fancy, what you like the most - then go from there
Newbie myself here trying to fulfill a lifelong dream I was always apprehensive about pursuing. I am glad I to have bitten the bullet, so to say, and hope you are as well!
Writing is good for that. I hope you don't stay in the area of identities but travel more deep and real area of true & inner self.
You could write about the impact covid-19 is having on your life if want. But if what you’re looking for is escapism then you could write about something else. Also: Welcome to the forum.
