Another newb to join the throng!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Trollhammaren, Jun 6, 2008.

Hi guys! I was just looking around for a writing forum to chat to other writers, since the one I'm currently on is rather small and inactive, and found this! I'm 15 and starting- God help me- to write a novel. Thing. If I can finish it. My username means 'troll hammer', and is a legendary song from the folk metal band Finntroll. I'm a metal head.

Hello Trollhammaren, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Hi! Welcome to the forums!
I'm pretty sure you'll be able to finish your novel - I'm 12 and I've written five, so that's proof that you can write a novel if you try hard enough. :p Feel free to PM me if you need anything.

Welcome from one of the 'other Berlins' (not Maryland, etc.)

Welcome, friend! :D It's good to start young at this sort of thing. You know, you might want to try some shorter writings before you try to write an entire novel... kind of like building some smaller boats before you try to build The Titanic! Anyway, settle in and whip up some brain food for us! Later... ~MB

i think it is absolutely great that you are starting on a novel at such a young age (lol, i'm only seventeen). Even if, like my attempts at that age, it doesn't work out in the end you learn so much. I hope to be able to read some!

Welcome and good luck! I'm 16 and I just finished my first novel earlier this year. It's the hardest, most tiresome thing you'll ever do, but so completely worth it.
