    Hi! *waves*

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Sam[antha], May 8, 2009.

So, I'm obviously new here.... my name is Sam.... Samantha... or any other variation of that name you want to call me. I'm game for all. I love to write, and I mostly write lyrics.. occasionaly attempt at a story, but that usually ends up going no where. I am 17 years old at this moment in time.. and I love to read. I'm an addict. (of reading!) So hi!

Hey Sam! I'm TheHedgehog, but Hedge will do :-D. I am thirteen years old and a boy. I like to write Satire, Mystery, and Realistic Fiction. I also like to read Satire, Comedy, Dystopia Science-Fiction, Mystery, and the occasional Thriller.

What do you like to write when composing songs?

What do you like to read?

What music do you like to listen to?

    Do you play an instrument?!?!

    Nice to meet you :-D.

Hey Sam, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hey TheHedgehog! thanks for the welcome! To answer your questions....

When I write songs, I write about anything. My songs usually reflect the type of music that I'm listening to at the time, like when I listen to Evanescence they are darker, where as when I'm listening to Avril Lavigne they are more pop like and upbeat.

I like to read anything. I usually gravitate more towards the romance, but I am usually not picky. As long as it keeps me interested, I'm game. And yes, I love the Twilight Saga! (even though I know that wasn't a question...)

I listen to any kind of music, metal to pop, mostly alternative, and some hip hop or rap. But my big bands that I'm into right now would be Cute Is What We Aim For, All Time Low, Paramore, Evanescence, Pink, Raposo, Disco Curtis.... and the list goes on...

I kind of sort of play the piano... I can sight read music, but getting the tune isn't that great. I'm more of a see it and then do it type of learner on the piano... 4 yearsd of lessons for nothing! lol

Cogito, thanks for the welcome! I was looking for the rules, but I couldn't find them earlier. So thanks for the links! I will take a look at all of that before I post anything in any other places.

    Thanks again guys!
    *Sam

"All Time Low" is all I needed to hear. You're in.

All Time Low was the first band I got addicted. I've heard of all of the other artists but really only listen to ATL and Cute is What We Aim For. Music is defintly my addiction. I could ramble on for hours upon hours upon hours...

    But that's just me :D

I play viola, sorta like violin except bigger and badder. Read anything that's good, listen to anything that's good. Write whatever I feelz like.
