Greetings, humans. Ah, introduction threads...well, I have joined one forum of writing before, under a different moniker. I hail from Afrique du Sud, and my language of birth is not English. However, English is one of the official languages of this bordered realm, so I gain occasional exposure to it outside of the net. I have not published anything so far in my existence, and have never written a continuous text of more than 3000 words. Feel free to ask me questions or something along those lines, meanwhile I may explore and attempt to assimilate into this pixel palace.
Hi Aroki! I don't think we have that many South-Africans here, so welcome to the fold! I actually just recently saw this documentary about a South African stand-up comedian, Trevor Noah. I believe it was called "You Laugh But It's True," and it was pretty interesting. However, I don't think I've ever read a novel by a South-African author. Welcome to the madhouse! Oh, you're picture is... nice. (Shudders) I really like all the diversity on this forum. It's nice to see other countries than the west showing up here. Do you intend on including any cultural themes in your work? I would be really interested in looking at that perspective. I notice it seems like it's those subtler things that are often so vital to the spirit of a nation. And those little things about a specific community that really have impact. Anyway, don't let me tell you what to write about, of course. Have fun!
I thank you for welcoming me, Kat. Yes, he is quite the comedian, especially where impressions are concerned. I never got to see him perform before he left for the American states. Recently, I have attained works by Lauren Beukes, but am yet to read them. She seems to have earned some international fame, her work 'The shining girls' is next to be read by me, it looks to have a very interesting premise (Another interesting series of books, perhaps aimed at younger generations, but humorous enough, are the 'Spud' series. It led to a film starring John Cleese as an eccentric teacher) I write exclusively in English, I find that after the years of residing partly on the internet I have become more used to writing and thinking in it than in my tongue of birth <.< I thank thee >.< Interesting, how that picture elicits emotional responses. In my experience, most have pitied the rhino rather than ponder upon the fate of the motorists or bewail the damage to the vehicle. One theme that I do wish to add, especially in larger pieces, is one of nature(Marulas and the different ways to use their fruit, hyenas hunting and feasting, the adventures of the dung beetle, the rattling of a porcupine's tail). I tend to write in genres of fantasy, humor or science-fiction, usually with quite a generic cultural template of characters. However, if I ever get to writing a novel or such, I feel obliged to at least represent some of the unique cultural, economical, spiritual and tribal systems we have here. The diversity is in itself an interesting topic of discussion.
