    Mz. Washington right here!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Kitara Long, Dec 3, 2008.

    Hey there guys!

My name is Kitara Long ... (psshhh...how many of you have your real names on here? ;) )

    I'm from Lacey, Washington.

When I was a kid I enjoyed writing poetry. I was one of those "messed up in the head due to crazy family" type kids..... so a lot of my material back then was extremely sad and angry...

    *sigh*...our youth, huh?

These days I am leaning more toward fiction novels. I'm thinking horror/crime/thriller. Ok..ok...so I heard that the market is SWAMPED...how is mine different??

well...my first book...believe it or not is going to be based on a TRUE STORY ...!

    oooo!! awwweee! right? excited?

You may be saying to yourself...

"Tons of those books are based on true stories, man!"

ok...ok...well how about fiction novels based on protitutes/s&m/stalkers/street racing/korean crime families/delusions and murder??? huh? huh? what did i tell ya?!

    :D well...atleast i hope no ones done this yet...*sigh*

either way...that's me and that's what i do.

glad to meet you guys! hope to hear from ya soon!

Well, it seems like someone's been drinking their coffee. :p Also, even if someone else has written a book like that it doesn't matter. Hell nearly every idea has been used at least once. All that matters is if it's well written. Welcome to the forum.

Hello Kitara, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Whether anyone has done the theme niches you are targeting is irrelevant. All that matters is how well you write for your chosen niches.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

hehe...i am sorry for the misunderstanding.

I did not realize...but i did read a few chapters of work from others before i posted.

(was nervous and wanted to see other posts...how good they were/bad they were and what the reviews sounded like)

I enjoy the honesty...believe me...i was up for hours last night reading...i was so excited to have found this place!!

So....i think i have met the criteria. I went back to the chapters I have read and posted what I thought...Although it may be a bit hipocritical and all...sometimes i need to practice what i preach huh? lol.

well...hope u guys do enjoy my material as much as i have been enjoying yours! especially the poetry...u guys got some good stuff
