Yeah, I've known about this for about a year. But that doesn't mean I'm not PSYCHED! I love that series.
HOLY CRAP! I love his dark materials series! ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG! lol. Although the golden compass sounds ghay, Northern Lights would've been fine. Bloody better be a good film or i'm going to hunt down the cast and crew and spit on them, each individually.
But but but... Northern Lights doesn't make as much sense to me. The other titles are artifacts that are used in the books. The Golden Compass. The Subtle Knife. The Amber Spyglass. I don't know. I like things that have a theme and make sense. The other title just screws that up.
From memory, in the book, the place where the first enterance to a parallel universe occured was within the settings of something similar to Earth's alaska or north pole- a region where the northern lights, or polar aurora occurs- hence its significance. It's not a very clear connection, this obviously why they decided to name the film the golden compass. Personally I liked the title, northern lights, as it helped identify the most significant event in the novel.
