    Hoping you folks don't bite...

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by RavenHeart, Apr 22, 2016.

    Hey folks,

Just joined an wanted to say a big 'hello' to you lovely people.

I've always loved writing, and have written articles for magazines before, but have only recently worked up the nerve to take a serious stab at being a creative writer. Currently I'm writing short stories and flash fiction, because the thought of writing 80,000+ words makes me want to crawl back under the duvet and hide, but I have got an idea for a novella now, so hopefully I can work my way up to a full length book after that. Wish me luck!

I miss being part of a writing group and would really love to meet other creative folks who want to talk about ideas, plot arcs, character development and the pros and cons of self publishing vs traditional and all that other lovely stuff that makes other peoples eyes glaze over.

Really looking forward to meeting you all and becoming a member of the community here.

    Welcome, Raven.. :)

It is a good group, as Steerpike mentions. But a good group, a productive group, will have a few teeth to it. :bigwink: Having someone gum at your writing just gets it slobbery. :blech:

Thanks Wrey. Don't worry, I don't mind someone giving my writing or my ideas a little constructive nibbling. Teeth are great, its fangs that worry me! Nibbling could be useful, just not a velociraptor style gutting :supershock:

Nice to see someone else trying a novella. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

As for biting, the secret seems to be to have a subforum for all the bitey people, especially a "debate" subforum that allows discussion of politics. This site has one, so all the other subforums are fairly chill. The last site I was on didn't have one and had debates in the main forums. The one before that had one, deleted it because it was too flamey, and saw the flames spill out to all the other forums.

Agreed. Let people get their anger out in the underground bullet proof vault, then they can come back to daylight and normal, calm proceedings ensue.

Welcome, I've only been around here a short while, but so far the natives seem friendly enough.

We're a pretty cool bunch. The Debate section is the only time things get super heated to the point we do basically bite each other to death. :D The entire rest of the forum is, as Wynn said, super chill. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Someone else said it! I'm hoping it catches on. "Welcome to the madhouse" would be such an awesome customary greeting for this place.
