I have used grimshawl as a handle on the internet for many years and almost always claim it on any forum I post on. It was originally a roleplaying character of mine. The Reverend Grimshawl. He was a firebrand, a brimstone and hellfire style preacher that just happened to travel around preaching to the small communities in RIFTS. He also happened to be a psychic burster class so he knew what he was talking about when it came to fire.

In college I took a class on Franz Kafka, and several times as a comparison the professor brought up his contemporary (or near-contemporary, can't really remember), Robert Musil. For some reason his name became sort of an inside joke between my roommate (who was also in this class) and I. I think we kept making fun of him for never finishing The Man Without Qualities. Probably wasn't really fair of us...

    Boop beep bop boop beep.

I like your screen name a lot actually :)

My screen name is part of a pen name that I came up with years ago for myself. I've since decided against using that pen name ( for several reasons) but it still does make for a pretty good screen name, if I do say so myself :p . Also I just really like the name Fernando (which incidentally shares its first letter with my actual name) so there's that too.

Magus is one of my favorite video game characters from the game Chrono Trigger. I wish I had a more creative name. Every username I've used prior has been from the randomly given xbox live username feature. DashedFrog, UnitiveTick. Pretty cool names...I just didn't think of them ;D

My forum name was suggested by the voices in my head. They told me it would convey a good sense of my personality.

I have begun to doubt the voices in my head, however, fearing that they may not have my best interests at heart.

I've been a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise since I was a small child (at the height of the early-1990's game violence hysteria, no less), and the enenra, Smoke, has been one of my favorite characters since his introduction as a hidden character in MK2 and MK3. I just think the concept is cool, so I figured I'd make a reference to that for lack of something better.

Plus, I enjoy a bit of the combusted herb from time to time lol.

I have had this name for years now, perhaps since I was about 14. There was no singular reason why I chose this particular nam since I composed it after a typo I once accidentally did (which I changed to make it slightly more readable and user friendly) and it developped from there - by the addition of "nox" and had no relation with the latin word "necro" - an assosiation I only found out after. However, the ending "nox" was actually something I added intentionally knowing the latin meaning. Mostly I added it as a reference to a dark time I was going through at the time. Funnily enough, A few months after creating this account I decided to standardise the name I use across my forums, emails, etc... But since I can't change it on this forum I am stuck with it. So there we go. That's my story. By new name, in case anyone is interested, is actually a slightly modified version of one of the name ideas I had for my WIP. The name idea was Syna. I simply added a "rix" at the end to compose "synarix". Rix, in case anyone is interested, is a Gallic name that usually was added at the end of name to signy that the person was a king/chieftain. The word was used by the etruscans and eventually passed onto the romans as "Rex". I didn't add it because I felt the need to signify anything other than my interest (i'm a historian by qualification) in Gallic culture and history - and also because it sounds better as an addition then any other gallic word like Cingeto (Warrior/Soldier), Epos (Horse) or Sego (Victory).

It is part of a name I use elsewhere and I thought it fit a writing forum.

I am the worst at coming up with usernames! I had no idea what to call myself and I was eager to get started, so I just took three names that sounded nice together and went with it. My name is neither Esther, May, nor Rose.

I... desperately needed an outlet to ask questions about writing and receive opinions on themes my novel. You know, as opposed to being surrounded by people who love me and would hate to crush my dreams or friends who have the writing experience of someone who trolls in the comment section under videos and reads nutrition labels a few times a day. Anyway.... because I think things out too much and too often, I had a crippling fear that I'd spend time on a forum and maybe possibly have a following one day. Then someone would look back at things I posted as a young person and I'd be mortified. So as opposed to every other thing I've named in my life, I put no thought into this one. Usually I reuse names I've come up with for characters I play on an online game, but nope. Color plus vague name I like, boom, done.

I think Stormsong originated as my AIM name? (for you youngins, that's AOL Instant Messenger, the precursor to texting someone lol) I've used it for so long my memory is a bit vague. Back in the day, I came up with several online names for various forums and whatnot. My other favorite is Shadowsong, but I went with Storm on this one for no particular reason. '07 is the year I graduated college.

I have a celestial spy show up every month. Peering into my room, watching me on nightly walks. Decided to name myself after my stalker. :p
